Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Château La Sauvageonne "Grand Vin" 2024
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a magnificent golden hue, combining beautiful depth with luminous clarity.
Nose
Displaying great complexity and lovely intensity, the nose opens with floral notes of hawthorn and violet, delicately intertwined with almond. It then evolves towards aromas of yellow fruits such as mango and apricot, before revealing subtle tertiary hints of gingerbread and tobacco leaf from its ageing.
Palate
Full-bodied and sophisticated, the palate offers a round attack and a creamy texture. A beautiful minerality, reflecting its volcanic terroir, balances this richness by bringing plenty of freshness. The structure is elegant, supported by a fine tannic frame and perfectly integrated oak. The remarkably long finish lingers on delicious notes of guava and melon.
Food and wine pairing
Ideal as an aperitif, this white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood or noble shellfish such as lobster. It will also enhance grilled white fish, white meats served with a light sauce, as well as Mediterranean dishes based on sun-drenched vegetables.
Service and storage
Boasting excellent potential, this 2024 vintage can be cellared for several years to allow its aromatic evolution to continue.
The mineral, complex expression of a great white wine from the Languedoc
The estate
Founded in 1995 by former professional rugby player Gérard Bertrand, the eponymous company has become a key reference in the Languedoc. Still led today by Gérard Bertrand, the estate has grown to encompass a total vineyard area of around 850 hectares spread across seventeen domaines. As a pioneer and world leader in biodynamic viticulture, the group stands out for its deep commitment to preserving the environment and showcasing the terroirs of southern France.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the Languedoc, the estate spans 57 hectares at altitudes between 150 and 350 metres. This unique volcanic terroir is characterised by great geological diversity, combining the famous red soils known as "ruffes" with sandstone and schist. Farmed biodynamically, the vineyard benefits from a wide temperature range between day and night, encouraging slow berry ripening within a biodiverse environment.
The vintage
2024 stands out for harvests carried out at just the right time, allowing for exceptional development in berry ripeness and revealing remarkable quality potential for this growing cycle.
Winemaking and ageing
For Château La Sauvageonne "Grand Vin" 2024, the grapes are hand-harvested and then rigorously sorted. The Grenache Blanc is fermented in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve all its aromatic freshness. The other grape varieties, meanwhile, are aged in French oak barrels, adding roundness and complexity to the final blend.
Grape varieties
Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Roussanne, Viognier.
