A Speyside single malt with harmonious aromas and a unique maturation
Glenfiddich: the excellence of Speyside Scotch whisky
Founded in the 1880s by William Grant in Dufftown, Speyside, Glenfiddich remains owned by William Grant & Sons, a family business led by the fifth generation of the founder’s descendants. This Scotch whisky stands as the world’s best-selling single malt, representing 35% of global sales and distributed in 180 countries. Glenfiddich is distinguished by its unique Solera system, pioneering marketing innovations, and its title as the “most awarded single malt Scotch whisky in the world,” combining artisanal tradition and commercial excellence under the leadership of Malt Master Brian Kinsman. The name “Glenfiddich” means “Valley of the Deer” in Gaelic, represented by the stag symbol on every bottle of these iconic Scottish whiskies.
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old: a revolutionary Solera process
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old stands out for its revolutionary maturation process called Solera Reserve, created by Master Distiller David Stewart in 1997 and launched in 1998. This method, inspired by the Spanish system used for aging sherry, uses three types of casks over the 15 years of aging: first- and second-fill bourbon barrels (200 L) accounting for around 80% of the blend, oloroso sherry casks (15%), and new American white oak casks (5%).
The uniqueness of this whisky lies in the final marrying stage carried out in a large, handcrafted 7,500 L Portuguese oak Solera vat, always kept half full with the previous batch of Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera to blend with the new batch. This technique ensures consistent, harmonious quality, creating a whisky with complex flavors that combines bourbon, sherry, and new oak influences for a unique and balanced tasting experience.
