Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos du Cailleret" 2024 by Jean Chartron

    Tasting

    Appearance
This white wine reveals a beautiful crystalline pale-gold hue, enhanced by wonderfully limpid reflections.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet stands out for its concentration, releasing fruity notes of grapefruit and passion fruit. Subtle hints of spice and delicate acacia-blossom scents round out this complex palette.

    Palate
The attack reveals a texture that is both fresh and concentrated. The palate offers a juicy depth, carried by a lively, perfectly integrated acidity and a beautifully mineral, finely woven structure, without any heaviness.

    Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with delicate white meats, such as poultry prepared in a light creamy sauce. It also accompanies fine fish in a beurre blanc, seafood such as oysters or langoustines, and matured goat's-milk or washed-rind cheeses with equal finesse.

The Precise, Mineral Expression of a Puligny-Montrachet Chardonnay by Domaine Jean Chartron

    The Estate
Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard, Domaine Jean Chartron stands as a historic figure of Burgundy. This 14.50-hectare vineyard is now led by Jean-Michel Chartron, representing the fifth generation, alongside his sister Anne-Laure. The estate is distinguished by the exceedingly rare ownership of three monopole parcels and by its commitment to uncertified organic farming. Renowned for its terroir-respecting approach and its technical precision, the house produces wines of great authenticity that rank among the region's benchmarks.

    The Vineyard
The vines enjoy a privileged geographical location within the Puligny-Montrachet appellation. Set at the foot of a hillside rising to an altitude of 353 metres, this terroir benefits from natural protection against northerly winds. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, thrive on a complex soil composed of clay, limestone and siliceous sand. The estate favours entirely manual harvesting and refuses the use of synthetic pesticides, thereby fostering the pure expression of this premier cru–classified climat.

    The Vintage
The 2024 year proved particularly demanding from an agronomic standpoint, leading to a significant drop in yield. The absence of prolonged heatwaves nevertheless helped preserve a lovely freshness. The exceptionally compressed harvest began on 16 September and was completed in just six days. Despite historically low harvested volumes, the climatic conditions favoured an exceptional natural concentration in the berries.

    Winemaking and Ageing
The making of the Clos du Cailleret 2024 begins with an alcoholic fermentation of four to six weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation in a temperature-controlled cellar. The ageing of this cuvée takes place entirely in oak barrels, with a proportion of 30% new wood and 70% containers used for one or more previous wines. After twelve months resting on fine lees in barrels, the wine is refined for a further four months in tanks before a light filtration and bottling.

    Grape Variety
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%).
