The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Blanc delivers clear, pristine notes of tangerine and lime on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, it's round and silky in texture, with a vibrant, refreshing finish. Drink it on the young side.

Ripe and enticing, with lots of white peach, green melon and yellow apple flavors laced with notes of shortbread and honeysuckle. A stony echo adds spine and length. Should unwind nicely. Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne. Best from 2021 through 2023. 1,666 cases made, 1,250 cases imported.

This is a sun-kissed, plushly textured blend of equal parts Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Clairette, sourced entirely from limestone soils. Vinified and matured in 20–25% new French oak, it's supple but freshly balanced and highlights pristine yellow apple, apricot and grapefruit flavors. While it drinks beautifully already, it should gain savory complexities through 2028.

25% Grenache Blanc, 25% Bourboulenc, 25% Roussanne, 25% Clairette. Aged for six months in concrete and new oak. Tasted blind. More citric than most Châteauneufs, and there's a good level of tang on the palate too. Pleasing refreshment, although there is still quite a bit of heat on the finish. (RH)

Bright light golden colour. Pure nose showing some chalky and flinty notes with fresh yellow fruit, lemongrass and white flower. Nice depth and texture, starts out on a fresh note and expands on the palate with lighter apple, citrus to richer apricot/pineapple notes, a fine bitterness and extract adds plenty of volume, long and lingering finish. Good precision.

Starting with the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc, this pretty, elegant wine has lots of juicy lemon and grapefruit aromas as well as a touch of minerality, medium-bodied richness, and a light, clean, classy style that’s ideal for enjoying over the coming 2-3 years. It’s not a blockbuster, but I do like its balance.

Superb concentration and precision on the nose. A juicy, perfectly balanced palate. One might slightly regret the lack of length. A lovely wine nonetheless.

This white cuvée is a rare and delicate production, crafted from the careful selection of just two plots on the estate.

L'Oratoire des Papes: Timeless Excellence in the Rhône Valley

    The Estate

While the site's winemaking history dates back to 1880, it was in 1926 that the L'Oratoire des Papes brand was officially born, instantly recognisable by its iconic Art Deco label. Located in the Rhône Valley, this emblematic estate now spans 38.5 hectares. Acquired in the early 2000s by Maison Ogier, a subsidiary of the AdVini group, it is currently run by François Miquel. Combining papal heritage with a modern outlook, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment and the precision of its work across the Rhône terroirs.

    The Vineyard

The grapes for this white wine come from two specific plots located within the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The vines thrive on terroirs of Urgonian limestone scree and sandy soils known as safres, lending freshness and aromatic complexity to the wine. The estate favours an environmentally friendly approach, with the vast majority of the vineyard farmed according to organic principles since 2008.

    The Vintage

A warm year, this modern vintage benefited from the cooling influence of the river and the slight elevation of the hillsides. These cooler nights allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining lovely natural acidity.

    Winemaking and Ageing

The grapes for this Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2018 are harvested by hand and early, to preserve the full freshness of the berries. After whole-cluster pressing and light settling, the wine undergoes four months of ageing on fine lees. This stage takes place in both new oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, combining fruit purity with a silky texture.

    Grape Varieties

This blend is made up of Clairette, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne.
