Beautiful deep, intense red colour. Highly aromatic nose, with ripe fruit aromas. The palate is both suave and lively, with substance, flavour and a slightly austere finish that will soften with ageing. Blend: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 14% - pH: 3.45. Yield: 28 hl/ha. Production: 15,000 bottles. Harvest: from 9 to 17 September.

    Description

The balance and refinement of a Saint-Émilion Second Wine

    The estate

Clos Fourtet, a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux, is an iconic estate located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. Built on the remains of an ancient medieval fort, it spans 22 hectares of clay-limestone soils. Since 2001, the Cuvelier family, led by Matthieu Cuvelier, has undertaken the modernisation of the estate while preserving its heritage. The vineyard, where Merlot predominates, benefits from a unique ageing process in underground galleries.

    The vineyard

Planted on the highest slopes of the western plateau of Saint-Émilion, at the foot of the "Grandes Murailles", the Clos Fourtet vineyard covers 22 hectares of clay-limestone soils. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, draw from this terroir all the mineral richness that characterises the estate's wines.

    The wine

La Closerie de Fourtet is the Second wine of Clos Fourtet.

    Vinification and ageing

After a densimetric and then manual sorting, the grapes are transferred by gravity. Spontaneous fermentation takes place with whole berries in 25 small-capacity temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Gentle extraction through manual punching down and a maceration of 21 to 24 days preserve the subtlety of the aromas. After malolactic fermentation in vat, the wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in an underground cellar, in a combination of barrels (10% new, 88% one or two wines old) and jars (2%). Alcohol content: 14% vol.

    Blend

The blend of La Closerie de Fourtet 2025 is composed of Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (25%).
