    Bruce Sanderson

A broad-shouldered version, not overly powerful, yet with an athletic structure setting the stage for black cherry, blackberry, earth and oak spice flavors. Tightens up on the finish, suggesting this is holding back for the moment. Best from 2026 through 2043. 110 cases made, 20 cases imported.

Deep, dark and rich with wonderful rooty complexity on the nose, which expands with each swirl of the glass. Suddenly violets, then sour cherries. Stunning concentration for 2021 on the expansive palate, beautifully supported by velvety tannins. Very long, graceful finish with notes of licorice and spice. Drink or hold.

it doesn’t swagger in 2021; it’s simply complete, refined, as long as it is broad. Little marked by the vintage, it displays a host of delightful facets.

    The estate

Established in 1797 by Jean Latour in Beaune, Louis Latour draws its roots from a Burgundian family tradition dating back to 1731. Now led by the eleventh generation of the Latour family, the estate upholds the custom where each head of the house is named Louis. A pioneer of modern winemaking techniques as early as the 19th century, the domaine cultivates exceptional vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Its historic Beaune cellars preserve two centuries of winemaking expertise, combining innovation with respect for ancestral traditions.

    The vineyard

The Chambertin appellation is located at the heart of the Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits, on an exceptional terroir renowned for its unique geological richness. The Latour family owns 0.81 hectares in a single plot, closer to Latricières than to Clos de Bèze. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are rooted in Bajocian clay subsoil covered with shallow limestone soils mixed with gravel and clay.

    Winemaking and aging

Manual harvesting precedes traditional vinification in open vats, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place over 10 to 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, with medium toasting, bringing structure and complexity to the wine.

    Grape variety

    100% pinot noir.
