    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 by Louis Latour

    Tasting

    Colour
In the glass, this wine reveals a radiant pale yellow, remarkably brilliant and beautifully clear.

    Nose
Powerful and remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet reveals notes of exotic fruit such as pineapple, mingled with hints of brioche and fresh almond. It then opens onto delicate aromas of white flowers and dried fruit, along with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of chalk and flint, rounded off by subtle hints of vanilla and toast.

    Palate
The palate shows a perfectly balanced structure and a texture that is both generous and seductive. Exceptionally long, this wine stands out for its finesse and remarkable tension on the finish, leaving lingering notes of butterscotch and macadamia nut.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This great wine pairs wonderfully with fine shellfish such as grilled lobster or langoustines. It also enhances delicate white fish in sauce, seared foie gras, and refined poultry dishes with cream and mushrooms. When it comes to cheese, it is an ideal match for a creamy Brie or a mature goat cheese.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Montrachet Grand Cru 2023, it is best served at a temperature of between 12 and 14°C. With excellent ageing potential, this wine can be laid down and will continue to develop favourably until around 2038.

The Pure, Mineral Expression of a Grand Cru White Burgundy

    The Estate

Founded in 1797, the House of Louis Latour is an emblematic institution of Burgundy, historically based in Beaune. Having remained independent and family-owned for more than two centuries, it is now headed by Florent Latour. The estate spans 48 hectares, the majority of which is classified as Grand Cru. A pioneer in sustainable viticulture, the estate is also distinguished by a unique expertise: it is the only Burgundian house to own its own cooperage. Combining respect for tradition with innovation, it now enjoys renown across the globe.

    The Vineyard

The 0.80-hectare plot from which this wine originates lies at the heart of the prestigious Montrachet terroir, on the Puligny-Montrachet side. Facing east and south, at an altitude ranging from 250 to 270 metres, the vines thrive on shallow brown soils resting on a bedrock of hard Jurassic limestone crossed with reddish marl. The estate practises sustainable viticulture here, without chemical fertilisers or herbicides, favouring horse ploughing and cover cropping to preserve biodiversity.

    The Vintage

The year 2023 in Burgundy was marked by significant heat. Temperatures even reached record levels at harvest time, creating unusual climatic conditions for the ripening of the berries.

    Winemaking and Ageing

The hand-harvested grapes are vinified using a traditional, minimalist approach. After a short fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the must for this Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 is transferred to oak barrels to continue fermenting using only indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place over 10 to 12 months in new 228-litre barrels, made by the estate's own cooperage with a medium toast. The wine is racked by gravity to preserve all its freshness and avoid oxidation.
