    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 Louis Latour

    Tasting

    Colour
This white wine from France reveals a pale, luminous yellow hue, characteristic of Chardonnays from cool vintages.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals great intensity, exuding subtle aromas of almond, vanilla and honeysuckle, underpinned by an elegant mineral thread.

    Palate
Full-bodied and dense, the palate offers lovely freshness. It unfolds flavours of almond paste and sap, perfectly balanced by natural acidity, a saline tension and remarkable mineral definition.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This great wine pairs wonderfully with noble shellfish such as lobster, firm-fleshed fish like monkfish or halibut served with a butter sauce, as well as with foie gras. It is also an ideal accompaniment to white meats in creamy mushroom sauces or truffle-based dishes.

    Service and Storage

To fully appreciate the Montrachet Grand Cru 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, taking care to decant it just before tasting. This vintage has excellent ageing potential and can be cellared to be enjoyed until around 2039.

    Other Characteristics

This wine has a moderate alcohol level of between 12 and 13%, along with a pH ranging from 3.2 to 3.35, underlining its classic, fresh and taut profile.

The Elegance and Mineral Precision of a Great White Wine from Burgundy

    The Estate

Officially founded in 1797, the Louis Latour House is a leading institution in Burgundy. Historically based in Aloxe-Corton, this independent family estate is now run by Florent Latour, representing the eleventh generation. The estate oversees an exceptional 48-hectare vineyard, including 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest owner of this category in the region. Committed to quality and respect for terroir, the producer also stands out for owning its own traditional cooperage, ensuring perfect mastery of the ageing of its wines.

    The Vineyard

The Montrachet terroir extends over a very small area at an altitude ranging from 250 to 270 metres, benefiting from an ideal east and south-east facing exposure. The estate's plot, covering 0.80 hectares, is located in the northern part of the appellation. The vines, averaging around forty years of age, thrive on shallow brown soils resting on a bedrock of hard limestone crossed by reddish marls. These unique geological conditions, combined with limited yields, give the grapes an exceptional concentration.

    The Vintage

The year was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. Spring saw incessant rainfall, favouring strong fungal pressure, followed by a long and uneven flowering period. Localised hail episodes and cool temperatures persisted until mid-August. Fortunately, the end of summer brought a saving turnaround, with warm days, cool nights and dry weather, allowing the growing cycle to reach an optimal conclusion ahead of the harvest in mid-September.

    Winemaking and Ageing

After rigorous hand-harvesting, the grapes are pressed directly without skin maceration. The must first ferments in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts, before being transferred to new French oak barrels from the house's own cooperage. Malolactic fermentation takes place naturally in these barrels. The Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 is then aged on the lees for ten to twelve months, with two gravity rackings, in order to preserve all the wine's finesse and structure before bottling.
