    Decanter

Pure blackberry with a touch of juniper. Soft and juicy style, with plenty of ripe fruit and ripe tannins. The alcohol is quite generous for the vintage; it certainly has power and concentration, perhaps just a little soft in tannin for this cuvée. Lush, easy-going but concentrated. 15% whole bunch, from lieu-dit Le Méal.

    Nicolas Greinacher

The classic 2023 Ermitage Le Méal makes its first impression with graphite dust, wild dark cherry, slender cedar and spicy tones. Sumptuously weighted, gently structured and totally reviving, the 2023 is a highly elegant red Ermitage from Chapoutier, doubling down with precision-poise on the long and complex close.

A precise and balanced Red wine from the Rhône Valley

    The estate

Founded in Tain-L’Hermitage in 1808, the Maison M. Chapoutier is now among the leading names in Rhône Valley wines. As both winegrower and merchant, Michel Chapoutier has elevated this family business to the highest level over successive vintages. His wines, acclaimed by connoisseurs worldwide, stand out for their finesse and exceptional quality. Holder of the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by American critic Robert Parker, Michel Chapoutier has handed over the reins of the company to his daughter Mathilde, who now oversees more than 350 hectares spread across the finest appellations of the Northern and Southern Rhône Valley.

    The vineyard

Le Méal is an Ermitage wine from a rigorous parcel selection, originating exclusively from the eponymous hillside. These elevated terraces, with soils of rolled pebbles and clay, are home to centenary vines with controlled yields, ensuring particularly concentrated grapes.
