    Robert Parker

    Joe Czerwinski

From a lieu-dit that sits quite high on the slope, the 2019 Cote Rotie Neve shows a bit more oak than the Mordoree bottling, featuring vanilla and cedar layered atop raspberries and black cherries. Full-bodied, it's rich and concentrated, yet silky in texture, with a long, mouthwatering finish.

    James Molesworth

A dark and brooding Côte-Rôtie, with black fruit and violet emerging from a background of charred mesquite, singed wild herbs, bitter dark chocolate and smoked meat. Needs time in the cellar to fully express its potential. Best from 2025 through 2035. 5 cases imported.

    Decanter

A decidedly smoky style that’s robust with plenty of impact, and very tannic and focused. The oak is noticeable but not excessive, and there's no excess alcohol, just great drive and freshness. Thyme, rosemary and blackberry characters come through with real searing intensity without excess weight. Long and direct like an arrow. So impressive, with great balance and precision. Lieu-dit Neve in Ampuis, a south/southeast-facing mid-slope site. All destemmed, fermented in concrete, aged in 225-litre barrels, around 30% new.

    James Suckling

The bouquet is like a huge bunch of flowers, although many of the aromas head in balsamic, leathery and spicy directions. With a little aeration, smoke and cigar-tobacco notes develop. Deep blackberry and black-cherry fruit on the expansive palate, the substantial core of fine tannins holding this extravagance together beautifully. Long, silky and spicy finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

    Vinous

    Josh Raynolds

Inky ruby. Expansive aromas of blackberry, cherry and boysenberry, with exotic spice, potpourri and olive notes building in the glass. Deeply pitched and broad on the palate, offering intense, mineral-accented black and blue fruit liqueur, licorice, floral pastille and cola flavors, along with a spicy cracked pepper flourish. The floral quality builds steadily with air and carries through a wonderfully long, chewy finish that features resonating mineral and spice notes and youthfully gripping tannins.

    Bettane+Desseauve

More charming fruit than La Mordorée; in this vintage it tastes with elegance, finishing driven by freshness. It’s a seducer.

Juicy and floral, Neve is nicely balanced and full of flavor.

    Description

A dense and refined red wine from Côte-Rôtie

    The estate

Established since 1808 in Tain-L’Hermitage, the M. Chapoutier House today embodies the elite of the greatest names in the wines of the Rhône Valley.

As a winemaker and merchant, Michel Chapoutier has managed to lead this family business to the top over the vintages. The wines of the Maison Chapoutier are recognized for their refinement and high quality by the finest connoisseurs beyond borders. A man of many hats, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by American critic Robert Parker. Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier's daughter, has taken up the torch of this iconic house, overseeing a vineyard of over 350 hectares across the most prestigious appellations of the Rhône Valley, but also in Roussillon, Australia, and Portugal.

    The vineyard

The Neve 2019 cuvée from M. Chapoutier is a Côte-Rôtie wine from vines planted on the slope of the Neve place in the town of Ampuis. Facing south/southeast, these vines rest on soils composed of schists and micaschists, with some veins of earth on the middle part of the slope.

    Vinification and aging

After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed. The vinification is done in raw concrete vats. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts. During this fermentation, the temperature gradually rises to reach 30-32 °C. The maceration lasts from 4 to 5 weeks with regular pumping over, accompanied by some punch downs. After racking for 24 to 48 hours to remove the coarsest lees, the juices are "hot" barreled in 228-liter Burgundy barrels, 25% to 30% of which are new. The aging lasts about 14 to 18 months depending on the vintage.

    Blend

    Syrah (100 %).
