The mineral precision of an Alsatian riesling by M. Chapoutier

    The estate

Founded in 1808 in the Rhône Valley, the Maison M. Chapoutier has distinguished itself through its pioneering approach to biodynamics under the impetus of Michel Chapoutier as early as 1990. Driven by the desire to reveal unique terroirs, he established himself in Alsace in 2006 to create Domaine Schieferkopf, a five-hectare vineyard. Today, the estate is managed by Michel, Corinne, Mathilde, and Maxime Chapoutier. The family continues a philosophy respectful of the environment, promoting the authentic expression of soils through rigorous parcel selections and inclusive braille labeling.

    The vineyard

Located in Alsace, in the commune of Bernardvillé, the Lieu-dit Fels parcel covers just 0.8 hectares. This singular terroir reaches an altitude of 380 meters on steep southeast-facing slopes. Its geological uniqueness lies in its very shallow soil, composed of a rare band of blue schist dating from the Precambrian. Cultivated using organic and biodynamic farming, the vines root deeply into this rock, benefiting from a windy microclimate and cool nights that promote berry concentration.

    The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by demanding weather conditions for the vineyard. The growing cycle had to contend with episodes of frost, high humidity, coulure, as well as mildew pressure. Despite these climatic challenges, the limited yields made it possible to obtain grapes of fine concentration.

    Winemaking and aging

The harvest is carried out manually in small crates. In the cellar, the Riesling "Lieu-dit Fels" Domaine Schieferkopf 2024 undergoes a long pressing of around eight hours, followed by cold static settling. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts, followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on its lees for fifteen months in large traditional wooden foudres, refining the texture while preserving its freshness.

    Grape variety

The "Lieu-dit Fels" Domaine Schieferkopf 2024 by M. Chapoutier is made from 100% riesling.
