Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Opus One Overture 2023
Tasting Notes
Nose
The nose opens with generous fruit notes of blueberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, complemented by hints of sweet cedar, fresh flowers, and a subtle touch of caramel.
Palate
The palate is silky and vibrant, carried by juicy fruit — cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, and red plum — with a fine texture and lovely freshness. The long, expressive finish reveals significant aging potential.
A Californian red wine harmoniously blending richness and elegance
The Estate
Opus One was born from the shared vision of two great figures in the world of wine: Baron Philippe de Rothschild, master of Château Mouton Rothschild, and Robert Mondavi, a renowned American winemaker established in Napa Valley.
The Vineyard
A true icon among the great wines of California, Opus One comes from vineyards nestled at the heart of the Oakville appellation. This exceptional "Grand Cru" embodies the meeting of two winemaking legacies, united in the pursuit of a wine of absolute singularity and quality.
The Wine
Produced since 1993, Overture is Opus One's Second Wine. Crafted with the same rigor as its elder sibling, this Napa Valley cuvée reflects the estate's expertise and the soul of California's terroirs through a blend of several vintages.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage began under the sign of rain, with a notable storm before budbreak, followed by a cool summer free of intense heat.
