    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Penfolds Grange 2022

    Tasting Notes

    Appearance
This wine reveals a particularly dark and intense colour, highlighted by subtle red hues at the rim of the glass.

    Nose
The bouquet is generous and remarkably deep. It exudes aromas of black cherry, chinotto and dark chocolate, intertwined with smoky, ferrous and bloody nuances. Notes of spice, polished leather and toasted hints reveal a pronounced oak ageing.

    Palate
The attack is full-bodied, revealing a dense and powerful structure. The texture is rich, coating the palate with flavours of walnut, leather, cocoa and dark fruits. The whole is supported by smooth, perfectly integrated tannins, leading into a remarkably persistent finish.

    Food and Wine Pairing
This exceptional cuvée will beautifully complement full-flavoured red meats, such as a fine cut of matured beef, herb-grilled lamb chops or braised game dishes. It will also pair wonderfully with slow-braised meats or well-aged hard cheeses.

    Serving and Cellaring
It is highly recommended to decant Grange 2022 before serving in order to release its full complexity. Built to endure for decades, this great wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2075.

An Australian Icon from Southern Australia with Masterfully Controlled Power

    The Estate
Founded in 1844 by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary at Magill Estate, near Adelaide, Penfolds has become a true wine icon. Now owned by the Treasury Wine Estates group, with Sam Fischer at its helm, this renowned brand shines on the international stage. Under the guidance of chief winemaker Peter Gago, the estate continues a unique philosophy based on blending different terroirs from South Australia, producing wines of exceptional consistency and quality that have built its legend around the world.

    The Vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée come from a rigorous selection of several emblematic terroirs in South Australia. The plots are mainly located in the famous regions of the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra, offering a geographical diversity that contributes to the wine's complexity.

    The Vintage
The year 2022 in Australia benefited from an overall temperate climate. Winter brought abundant rainfall, allowing the soils to properly replenish their water reserves. Spring proved more unpredictable, marked by constant winds, mild temperatures and some hailstorms in late October, leading to reduced yields. Summer then unfolded under mild conditions, without excessive heatwaves, promoting a slow, even and harmonious ripening of the small berries right through to harvest.

    Winemaking and Ageing
After fermentations carried out separately for each lot, the Grange 2022 blend undergoes an extended ageing process. The wine rests for 18 months exclusively in brand-new American oak barrels, a traditional method that shapes its structure and distinctive aromatic profile.

    Grape Varieties
This blend is composed of 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon.
