Robert Parker

Stephan Reinhardt

The crazy pink colored NV Extra Brut Rosé de Meunier is based on fully ripe Pinot Meunier grown on calcareous clay soils rich in silex. Sixty percent was fermented as Blanc de Noirs, 30% as rosé de macération and 10% as red wine, all in barriques and foudres. The bouquet shows an intensely aromatic, clear, fresh and spicy bouquet of redcurrant, raspberries and cherries. Mouthfilling and fruity but vibrantly fresh on the dry and well-structured palate, this is a pure, persistent, pretty vinous and elegant rosé with a long, aromatic finish and persistent expression. Still young and with nice red wine features, this is a firm rosé but also a great drinking pleasure already. Tasted in August 2018 from Lot L. 16 that was disgorged in April 2017.

Very open and fruity, showing raspberries, wild strawberries, violets and manuka honey on the nose. So pure, fun and fresh with a medium body and light bubbles. 100% Pinot Meunier, 60% pressed into white wine plus 30% macerated juice plus 10% still red wine. Base wine 2022. Dosage 2.5 g/L. Disgorged January 2025. Drink now.

The NV Extra Brut Rosé de Meunier is bright, punchy and super-expressive, with notes of cranberry, blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and dried flowers. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the Rosé de Meunier packs a pretty serious punch. The blend is 60% Meunier (white pressed), 30% Meunier with maceration and 10% still red Meunier. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2023.

A young rosé (2016 base), very lively and a little firm. It is quite straightforward but has a hint of herbaceousness. Best enjoyed soon as an aperitif.

A characterful rosé champagne from the Marne Valley

The estate

Founded in 1889 by Jean-Baptiste Laherte, the Laherte Frères House is based in Chavot-Courcourt, in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, in Champagne. Since 2005, Aurélien Laherte, representing the seventh generation, has been at the helm of this 11-hectare family estate. The estate stands out for its commitment to biodynamic and organic viticulture, as well as for a minimalist approach in the cellar that favors the authentic expression of terroir. Laherte Frères is now regarded as one of the benchmarks of Champagne’s new wave, combining family tradition with viticultural innovation.

The vineyard

This Rosé de Meunier comes exclusively from parcels located in the Marne Valley, notably in the communes of Chavot, Mancy and Moussy. This Champagne terroir is characterized by chalk soils covered with clay, giving the wines a distinctive finesse. The Meunier vines, averaging around 30 years of age, are farmed with great respect, favoring biodynamic and organic practices, allowing optimal expression of the grape variety and the terroir.

Winemaking and aging

The winemaking of Rosé de Meunier is based on an original method combining three distinct approaches: Meunier vinified as a white wine, a proportion obtained through saignée maceration, and a portion of red wine. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, while malolactic fermentation is only partially carried out. This production technique gives the champagne its characteristic structure and aromatic complexity. The extra brut dosage of around 2.5 g/L preserves the purity of the terroir’s expression.
