Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the 2023 Rully Village by Champy
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A pale, luminous yellow with a crystalline brilliance highlighted by subtle golden hues.
Nose
Highly expressive, it reveals aromas of ripe orchard fruits such as apple and pear, mingled with notes of peach and apricot. Delicate floral touches of acacia and linden intertwine with fine nuances of citrus, butter, vanilla, and a subtly toasted oak.
Palate
The attack is lively and delicate, evolving into a round, smooth, and complex texture. A lovely mineral tension and exotic citrus flavours bring balance, leading to an elegant, bright, and very lightly oaked finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with seafood such as shellfish, crustaceans, or white fish, whether grilled or served with a light beurre blanc sauce. It also enhances white meats, such as roasted poultry or veal escalope with mushrooms.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this 2023 Rully Village, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 7 and 10°C. This vintage can be enjoyed now and will keep until around 2028, with a peak expected around 2025.
The Elegance of a Chardonnay from Burgundy by Champy
The Estate
Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, Maison Champy stands as the oldest wine house in Burgundy still in operation today. Based in the heart of Beaune, this historic house farms a 21-hectare vineyard across the Côte de Beaune. Now owned by the Advini group, with Dimitri Bazas overseeing technical direction, the estate is distinguished by its pioneering commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Recognised with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label, the house continues to uphold its expertise within its 15th-century cellars and its Eiffel-style vat house.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Rully appellation, located in the Côte Chalonnaise, south of the Côte de Beaune. This hillside terroir, known for its vibrant character, offers ideal conditions for the local white grape variety to thrive. The house carefully selects these grapes from partner growers to craft this wine, rounding out its range with a more southern expression of the region.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are hand-harvested to ensure optimal fruit quality. The winemaking of this 2023 Rully Village follows a philosophy of minimal intervention. Ageing takes place with great care in the house's historic cellars, including a measured period in oak barrels. This traditional method brings roundness and a fine, woody complexity to the wine while preserving the fruit's natural freshness.
Grape Variety
Chardonnay (100%)
