Cotes de Provence Wines : Key Points

The Côtes de Provence is an appellation in the Provence wine region spread out over an area of approximately 20,000 hectares divided over the Bouches du Rhône, Var and the Alpes Maritimes departments. The vines are mainly planted on two types of soils: limestone in the north and west, and crystalline (volcanic rock) in the east and in south. The Côtes de Provence is so large that there is an exceptional combination of terroirs and this allows for the production of different wines. It produces mainly rosés, plus some reds and whites (Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Clairette, Semillon, etc.). The rosé wines of the Côtes de Provence develop fruity (white fruit, citrus fruit, exotic fruit, red fruit) and floral aromas, as well as mineral and empyreumatic notes. The wines are round and lively. The reds are quite fruity with some that can be drunk young and others that can be cellared. The whites of the Côtes de Provence reveal citrus and white flower fragrances mixed with balsamic or honey notes.
