Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Beaune 1er Cru "Tuvilains" 2024 Domaine du Château de Meursault
Tasting notes
Colour
With a luminous white hue, this wine catches the eye.
Nose
Precise and delicate, the nose expresses aromas of white fruit combined with floral notes reminiscent of hawthorn and acacia blossom, all underscored by touches of green apple and lemon.
Palate
The attack offers beautiful breadth along with a rich texture brought by the ageing process. The palate is supported by a natural acidity that lends freshness, leading to a persistent finish with mineral accents.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs perfectly with poultry or veal in a creamy sauce, as well as with freshwater fish such as pike-perch. It also goes very well with seafood such as scallops, or with matured cheeses like Comté or Beaufort.
Service and storage
This Beaune 1er Cru "Tuvilains" 2024 can be enjoyed in its youth for its freshness, but it also has the structure needed to develop in the cellar until around 2044.
The precision and minerality of a Premier Cru from Beaune
The estate
Located in France, in the heart of Burgundy, the Domaine du Château de Meursault traces its origins back to the eleventh century, although the estate took on its current name in 1973. This vast domaine spans 67 hectares of vines spread across prestigious appellations. Now headed by Olivier Halley, who acquired the estate in 2012, and managed by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the estate is distinguished by its spectacular underground cellars and its environmental commitment. Indeed, the entire vineyard has been certified organic since 2022, reflecting a determination to preserve the authentic expression of the terroirs.
The vineyard
The Tuvilains plot covers an area of 0.5247 hectares, located in the southern part of the Beaune Premier Cru appellation. Positioned at the base of the slope, the vines benefit from an east-facing exposure, ideal for capturing the morning light while avoiding the excessive heat of the afternoon. The terroir consists of medium-density soils, combining light clay with limestone fragments and a gravelly texture, offering balanced drainage and water retention.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by unpredictable and unstable weather. The particularly wet spring led to strong mildew pressure, requiring constant attention in the vines. Despite this significant rainfall and these climatic challenges, rigorous canopy management and controlled yields allowed the grapes to reach optimal physiological ripeness. The harvest then took place from 16 to 25 September.
Winemaking and ageing
After hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting, the grapes for this Beaune 1er Cru "Tuvilains" 2024 are gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels over about ten days. The wine is then aged on the lees for approximately 15 months in barrels made up of 30% new oak and 70% one- or two-year-old barrels. During the first six months, regular lees stirring is carried out every two weeks to enrich the texture, before the wine is left to clarify naturally.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
