Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Peyre Rose "Belle Leone" 2015
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a deep ruby-red hue, dense and brilliant, with subtle garnet reflections at the rim.
Nose
The bouquet is complex and seductive, blending aromas of very ripe dark fruits such as blackberry and plum with floral and spicy notes of clove and black pepper. Mineral touches, tapenade, garrigue, verbena and peppermint enrich this palette, underscored by very discreet oak.
Palate
On the palate, this red wine offers a dense, concentrated texture, supported by fine, perfectly integrated tannins. Generous flavours of stewed dark fruits and wild herbs unfold, accompanied by smoky and earthy nuances. The finish, remarkably persistent, stretches out on silky notes of oriental spices and tobacco.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine of character pairs wonderfully with rich dishes such as beef stew, red meats, lamb or roast free-range poultry. It will also elevate a platter of aged hard cheeses, such as Comté, as well as vegetable preparations with Mediterranean herbs.
Serving and Cellaring
Endowed with exceptional ageing potential, the "Belle Leone" 2015 is best enjoyed until around 2037.
The Authentic and Complex Expression of a Vin de France by Peyre Rose
The Estate
Founded in the late 1970s by Marlène Soria, the current owner, Peyre Rose extends over a vineyard of 24 to 30 hectares. Born of a personal project, the estate has made its name through an uncompromising philosophy, favouring limited yields and extremely long ageing before release. Entirely energy self-sufficient, the estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its commitment to producing authentic wines that reflect the purity of their terroir with minimal intervention.
The Vineyard
Set at an altitude of around 200 metres on the Peyrals plateau, the terroir enjoys a Mediterranean climate swept by the mistral. The vines grow in the heart of the wild garrigue, on very stony, friable clay-limestone soils that encourage deep rooting. This Vin de France is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming and biodynamics, ensuring a natural expression that preserves its environment.
The Vintage
The 2015 vintage was marked by a dry winter, offset by the substantial water reserves accumulated during the previous winter. The warm, mild spring provided excellent conditions for flowering. Summer then brought moderate heat, punctuated by cool nights that allowed the vines to maintain a fine balance. The harvest took place under an ideal Indian summer, from early to late September.
Winemaking and Ageing
A philosophy of minimal intervention guides the production of the "Belle Leone" 2015. After a natural cold maceration, fermentations start spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts and proceed slowly over nearly three weeks. The ageing is distinguished by its exceptional length: the wine rests for almost ten years in large wooden vessels, such as foudres and vats, followed by a brief three-month spell in barrels, before continuing its slow maturation in bottle.
Grape Varieties
90% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre.
