Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Marlène N.3 2016 by Peyre Rose
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a deep ruby hue with subtle brown highlights and a brilliant rim.
Nose
Particularly expressive, the aromatic bouquet opens with scents of juicy black fruit and crushed red berries. It gains complexity with a lovely freshness brought by hints of undergrowth, spice and cigar, along with balsamic touches of eucalyptus and thyme.
Palate
At once full, crisp and velvety, the palate delivers intense flavours of black forest fruits. The texture is harmonious and silky, supported by a fine tension. The finish is persistent and minty, marked by delicate notes of blackcurrant and superb freshness. Altogether, this is a red wine of character, gourmand and particularly elegant, with great ageing potential.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with dishes of character such as jugged hare à la royale, duck with figs or a fine rib of beef. It will also be a perfect match for game, red meats, mature cheeses and dishes enhanced with black Périgord truffle.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy the 2016 vintage, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C, after decanting for approximately four hours. With great potential, this wine can be enjoyed until at least 2038, with a peak expected around 2031.
A Harmonious and Elegant Vin de France from Domaine Peyre Rose
The Estate
Founded in the early 1990s by Marlène Soria, its current owner, Peyre Rose has established itself as a true prestige brand. This 25-hectare vineyard produces exceptional, highly sought-after wines. Born from a love at first sight for a secluded hermitage in the heart of the garrigue, the winegrowing adventure of this charismatic vigneronne was quickly acclaimed by international critics. The estate stands out for its extremely low yields and particularly long ageing, resulting in cuvées with remarkable ageing potential.
The Vineyard
The vines that produce this Vin de France thrive on a secluded plateau in the heart of the garrigue. The terroir consists of very stony clay-limestone soils, which promote optimal drainage and deep rooting. The vineyard is managed with respect for the environment, combining practices drawn from organic, biodynamic and sustainable viticulture. The grapes are harvested by hand with rigorous sorting, and yields are deliberately kept very low to guarantee maximum concentration in the fruit.
Vinification and Ageing
The creation of this wine begins with partial destemming followed by a long maceration with pump-overs, allowing a gentle extraction of aromas and tannins. The uniqueness of this cuvée lies in its exceptionally long maturation process. The wine is aged for nearly ten years, mostly in tank, with a quarter of the volume matured in large oak vats. This patient work in the cellar concludes with an extended rest in bottle before release, resulting in a wine with a polished, complex structure.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from a blend dominated by Syrah (65%), complemented by Grenache (35%).
