Vinum

With discreet spice, firmly and densely structured, balanced, showing minerality and a noticeable grain of tannins. Digestible and easy-drinking.

Decanter

Gorgeous purity on the nose, open and expressive, the florality – rose, iris and violets – gives a lovely scent. Cool blue fruits, ripe but well defined, with thrilling, vibrant acidity alongside a touch of sweetness that gives lift. There’s an ease about this, still complex, but it’s smooth and supple with firm tannins, softly gripping and providing the structure. It feels confident but not showy, with a broad frame and clear backbone. I love the liquorice and cola aspects and the subtle spice. Ripeness is clearly there, but there’s no excess – the tension and energy remain from the start. Structured and suave.

Cedar and floral notes with dried rose petals and plums, plus some cherries and fresh tobacco. Medium to full body. Linear and tight with fresh, fine tannins. Chocolate and hazelnut. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. Second wine of Angelus. Give it four to five years. Try after 2026.

A superb wine that is so good, it is difficult to believe it is a second wine! Here, you find a lush, opulent, silky wine loaded with black cherries, licorice, plums, espresso, flowers and a touch of chocolate. The fruits are sweet, fresh, and vibrant, providing a finish that is energetic, as well as luscious. You can enjoy this on release, or let it age for additional nuances while waiting for its big sister to age and develop. Drink from 2023-2037.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, discreet brightening on the rim. Very fine new oak spices with nougat, ripe cherry fruit, a hint of liquorice and tobacco. Medium complexity, red-berry nuances, fresh, structured, well-integrated tannins, mineral finish, salty aftertaste. Very elegant, with freshness and drive, perhaps the best Carillon so far.

Based on 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, raised in 60% new French oak (the balance is in stainless steel), the 2020 Le Carillon D'Angelus has a medium-bodied, vibrant, quite elegant profile that certainly brings a touch of the class and finesse that's almost always found in the Grand Vin. Ripe cherries, black raspberries, spice box, sandalwood, and dried flower notes make up the aromatics, and this balanced, wonderfully complete second wine has fine tannins and a good spine of acidity. It will benefit from a few years in the cellar and keep for 10-15 years.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 14.5% abv, pH 3.6, good volume, 60% new oak. Smaller berries with plenty of skin. Good phenolics in the grapes, gentle extraction. They’re aiming for elegance, structure and concentration. Purple-ruby with a delicate lilac rim. Playful bouquet with intense violet perfume, behind it sour cherries, licorice and light tobacco, a hint of vanilla. On the precise palate, supported by ripe tannins and verve, medium body, ripe extract sweetness, everything in balance. In the aromatic finish, blue berries, tarragon and perfumed pipe tobacco.

(90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc) Silky, fruity, full bouquet, strawberries, brown chocolate, mocha, bread crust. Fruity, fragrant palate with sweet fruit, fine tannins, delicately creamy structure, powerful aromatics, bitter finish. 17/20 2024 - 2036

Expect a change from recent years for Carillon, with far less Cabernet Franc in the blend, to really give it a distinct character from Angélus. Structured and creamy, gourmet and confident, studded with espresso, bitter orange zest and cocoa, along with pretty serious acidity. Winemaker Emmanuelle Fulchi d’Aligny (her last full vintage here) and Benjamin La Foret, second vintage in the new cellars. 40hl/ha yield, 3.5 pH, 60% new oak.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Carillon d’Angelus is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of Morello cherries, juicy blackberries, and raspberry leaves spring from the glass, followed by touches of lilacs, cedar chest, and sandalwood, with a waft of cumin seed. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of bright, expressive blackberry and spicy layers, supported by nice, ripe, plush tannins and finishing with a refreshing lift.

Le Figaro Vin

A complex, expressive, perfumed nose with deep, hypnotic notes of small wild autumn fruits. Precise and crystalline on the palate, with silky, melting tannins. Power builds gradually to a long, refined finish. A delight, full of energy and grace, endowed with delicate strength.

The nose is fruity, aromatic and offers indulgence, a touch of power/tension, some depth, lovely fine grain and a certain elegance. It reveals notes of pulpy/bright blackcurrant, blueberry and, more slightly, bright raspberry, combined with fine hints of violet, creamy plum, as well as subtle touches of vanilla, Timut pepper, discreet toasted nuances and star anise. The palate is fruity, balanced and offers juiciness, smoothness, appetence/freshness within its richness, gourmandise, along with fine definition, a tight edge, refined richness, freshness, tension (in finesse), a fine grain and a delicate airy feel in the balance. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, bright blackcurrant, juicy/elegant raspberry and, more slightly, morello cherry, combined with touches of tonka bean, cardamom, mocha, as well as a subtle hint of caramelization and toastiness. A subtle hint of roasting on the finish/persistence. A discreet chew on the finish.

Logo on the cork: inverted T (Trescases) Dark red color, slightly evolved. Intense nose with fresh, ripe fruit. Precise on entry, very aromatic mid-palate, with a lovely texture; the wine becomes juicy, then silky, leading to a sappy finish, well supported by a fresh fruity aroma. Overall, no angular tannins. It’s very good.
