    Description

Tasting notes and characteristics of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Artemis 2022

    Tasting

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals intense scents of black fruits, raspberry and cherry compote, accompanied by ripe fig. Subtle woody notes of tobacco, vanilla and dark chocolate further enrich this rich olfactory palette.

    Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a silky, smooth texture, supported by polished tannins and a perfectly balanced structure. Generous flavours of black cherry, Boysen blackberry and milk chocolate unfold elegantly towards a long and flavourful finish.

    Food and wine pairing
Thanks to its beautiful structure and aromatic richness, this red wine will pair ideally with grilled red meats, slow-cooked dishes in sauce or flavourful game-based preparations.

    Serving and cellaring
The Artemis 2022 can be enjoyed in its youth thanks to its well-integrated tannins, but it also possesses the necessary structure to evolve and gain complexity after a few years of cellaring.

The elegance of a great Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

    The estate
Officially founded in 1970 by Warren Winiarski, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a legendary estate located in California. Having made history with its victory at the famous Judgment of Paris in 1976, it has established itself as a true global benchmark. Today, the Italian Marchesi Antinori family is the sole owner of this prestigious brand. Committed to a sustainability approach with Napa Green certification, the estate continues to produce wines combining power and elegance, while preserving its exceptional terroir.

    The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from a meticulous selection of plots across the Napa Valley, favouring cooler, higher-altitude sites during warm vintages. The blend is based mainly on the Atlas Peak sector (73%), complemented by the Arcadia vineyard in Coombsville (12%) and other terroirs of the region (15%). These vines benefit from the valley's geological and microclimatic diversity, yielding berries of great concentration.

    The vintage
The 2022 growing season was marked by a third consecutive year of drought. After record rainfall in late October 2021, the winter proved very dry, requiring early soil work to preserve moisture. Spring, particularly unpredictable, saw a late frost in mid-April without major damage, followed by hail and rain during flowering, reducing some yields. After rainfall at the end of June that encouraged mildew pressure, temperatures returned to normal in July. The harvest, which began during a nine-day heatwave, ran from 10 September to 12 October. Despite these climatic challenges, fruit quality was exceptional, offering riper flavours and softer acidity.

    Winemaking and ageing
Under the direction of head winemaker Marcus Notaro, the Artemis 2022 benefits from meticulous vinification aimed at extracting substance while preserving the estate's characteristic finesse. Ageing then takes place over 15 months in French oak barrels, split between 55% new barrels and 45% older barrels, in order to harmoniously integrate the woody notes with the fruit.

    Grape varieties
98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1.5% Cabernet Franc, 0.5% Petit Verdot
