A red wine from Penedès combining freshness and precision

    The estate
Founded in 1870 by brothers Miguel and Jaime, the Familia Torres house is a true institution in Catalonia. Located in the heart of Penedès, this emblematic brand is now led by Miguel A. Torres and his son Miguel Torres Maczassek. A pioneer in the fight against climate change, the estate stands out for its strong commitment to organic and regenerative viticulture. With a vast vineyard and significant forested areas, the estate is also dedicated to reviving forgotten indigenous grape varieties, thus combining the preservation of its rich historical heritage with a resolutely forward-looking vision.

    The vineyard
Located in the historic region of Penedès, the Castell de la Bleda terroir benefits from a winegrowing heritage spanning more than two millennia. The vines are cultivated according to the principles of organic and regenerative agriculture. The moneu grape thrives on deep yellowish brown-grey soils, with a silty texture, poor in organic matter but rich in calcium carbonate. Tempranillo and garnacha, meanwhile, are planted on clay-limestone soils, offering ideal conditions for their development.

    The vintage
The year 2023 in Spain was marked by temperatures above the usual averages, reaching an annual average of 16.1 ºC, and by several heatwaves during the summer period. Rainfall was particularly scarce, showing a 50% decrease compared to normal with only 266 mm accumulated. This intense drought inevitably slowed the vegetative development of the vines throughout the cycle.

    Vinification and ageing
To craft Clos Ancestral 2023, the berries undergo a five-day skin maceration. Alcoholic fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks under a controlled temperature of 25 ºC for ten days. Malolactic fermentation occurs both in stainless steel tanks and in barrels that have held several wines. The ageing is split: around 60% of the wine rests for ten months in second-use barrels, while the rest is refined in stainless steel. Notably, the moneu variety benefits from a specific ageing process, partly carried out in tanks and amphorae.

    Grape varieties
This blend is composed of moneu, tempranillo and garnacha.
