    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Corton 2022 Vincent Girardin

    Tasting

    Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue, adorned with subtle garnet nuances.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals itself as mature and complex, exuding scents of black fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry. These fruity notes intertwine harmoniously with mineral touches of wet stone and earthy nuances.

    Palate
The palate offers lovely concentration with a round, supple texture. The tannins, both ripe and refined, structure the whole with elegance. A pronounced minerality precedes a clean, remarkably pure finish.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with hearty meats such as beef bourguignon, hare stew, or roasted game like pheasant or wild boar. It also pairs perfectly with mature cheeses such as Époisses, Comté, or Cantal.

    Service and storage

To fully appreciate this Corton 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Decanting may be considered if a slight sediment is present. This wine can be enjoyed after a few years of patience, but it will continue to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2042.

    Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%.

The elegance and power of a Grand Cru from the Côte de Beaune

    The estate

Founded in 1980 by a nineteen-year-old winemaker, the House of Vincent Girardin is based in Meursault, at the heart of Burgundy. Starting with just two hectares, the estate has grown by combining respect for tradition with an unwavering pursuit of terroir expression. Since 2012, the estate has belonged to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, chaired by Jean-Pierre Nié. Under the technical direction of Eric Germain, the House continues a philosophy of minimal-intervention winemaking, producing wines of great purity that faithfully reflect the diversity and richness of Burgundy's climats.

    The vineyard

The grapes come from the Les Perrières climat, a former stone quarry located in the commune of Aloxe-Corton. This high-altitude terroir, perched at around 273 metres, is characterized by a steep slope and an east to southeast exposure. The vines, approximately forty-five years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in flint. Vineyard management favours environmentally friendly practices, with no synthetic herbicides, and meticulous care of the vines to ensure optimal ripeness.

    The vintage

The year 2022 offered highly favourable weather conditions. The harvest, which took place from late August to mid-September, yielded grapes in excellent health, achieving ideal ripeness while maintaining good yields.

    Winemaking and aging

The creation of this Corton 2022 begins with hand-harvesting followed by rigorous sorting. After light crushing and destemming, cold maceration precedes fermentation in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. Extraction is carried out gently through punching down and pumping over. The wine is then delicately pressed before being transferred into French oak barrels, 30% of which are new. Aging on fine lees lasts fourteen to fifteen months. Finally, the blend is assembled in tank one month before bottling, which is carried out in accordance with the lunar calendar.

    Grape variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
