Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2022 Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Colour
This white wine from France displays a bright, luminous pale yellow hue.
Nose
The bouquet reveals aromas of white-fleshed fruit, citrus and flowers, enhanced by hints of exotic tea. With aeration, notes of tropical fruit, toasted almond, almond paste and vanilla emerge.
Palate
The palate offers a particularly elegant texture, striking a fine balance between tension and generosity. Flavours of lemon, lime, stone fruit, honey and hazelnut come through. The acidity brings lovely freshness, leading to a long, firm finish marked by a saline minerality.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Vincent Girardin pairs perfectly with fine fish such as turbot or sole in cream sauce, as well as shellfish like grilled lobster. It also elevates white meats in sauce and pairs beautifully with soft or blue-veined cheeses, such as brie or roquefort.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, this Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2022 should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to develop favourably in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2035.
Other Characteristics
This Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" displays a moderate alcohol content of between 13% and 13.5%, along with a pH between 3.25 and 3.35, ensuring excellent preservation of acidity.
The Richness and Mineral Precision of a Great White Burgundy
The Estate
Founded in 1980 by a nineteen-year-old winegrower, the Vincent Girardin house quickly established itself in Burgundy. The estate relies on 20 hectares of its own vineyards, supplementing its supply with contracts covering a further 50 hectares. In 2012, the estate was sold to Jean-Pierre Nié, president of the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois. Under the technical direction of Eric Germain, the team continues to uphold a philosophy that respects the terroirs, establishing this house among the region's foremost names.
The Vineyard
Located at the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the climat from which this wine originates covers just over 16 hectares within the Meursault appellation. The vines benefit from a south to south-east exposure, planted at an altitude ranging from 240 to 280 metres. The soils, dating back to the Bathonian period, are composed of clay-limestone, with a proportion of clay that gives the grapes a lovely opulence while preserving a characteristic minerality.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage stood out for its hot and particularly dry summer season. The growing cycle was nonetheless preserved thanks to significant rainfall in June. This rain allowed the vines to withstand the summer drought, resulting in a generous harvest and grapes with optimal health and lovely concentration.
Winemaking and Aging
Following hand-harvesting and a rigorous double sorting, this Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru "Les Genevrières" 2022 undergoes natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels. A complete malolactic fermentation then takes place. Ageing takes place using around 50% new oak for eight to ten months, followed by six months of refinement in stainless steel tanks. Bottling is carried out without fining and with minimal filtration, following the lunar calendar.
