    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Epenots" 2023 Vincent Girardin

    Tasting

    Colour
Dark red in hue, this wine reveals a colour that is both intense and vibrant.

    Nose
The bouquet reveals pronounced aromas of blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle notes of liquorice and a light spicy touch that develops with ageing.

    Palate
The palate stands out for its well-defined acidity and firm tannic structure in its youth. The whole promises to soften with time, revealing beautiful harmony and a more velvety texture.

    Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, this Pommard 1er Cru "Les Epenots" 2023 is best served at a temperature between 14 and 17°C. With fine ageing potential, this wine can be cellared until around 2038.

    Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with refined red meats, feathered game or a beef bourguignon. It also goes wonderfully with red wine-based sauced dishes as well as characterful cheeses.

The elegance and depth of a red wine from the Côte de Beaune

    The estate

Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin with just two hectares of vines, Maison Vincent Girardin is today a leading reference in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, the estate farms approximately 100 hectares, including 22 hectares under its own ownership. The domaine stands out for its minimal-intervention approach and biodynamic practices initiated as early as 1997. Since August 2024, Jean-Pierre Nié has held the role of president, while Eric Germain continues to oversee winemaking, ensuring the continuity of style and the showcasing of Burgundy's terroirs.

    The vineyard

The grapes come from the "Les Grands Epenots" plot, located in the commune of Pommard, south of the Côte de Beaune. This vast climat sits on a steep slope with predominantly limestone soils and a slight presence of clay. The vines planted here are forty-five years old.

    The vintage

The year 2023 ranks among the hottest ever recorded in the region, even surpassing the temperatures of the previous year. This particularly favourable climate resulted in a generous harvest, yielding grapes of excellent ripeness while maintaining fine balance and plenty of freshness.

    Winemaking and ageing

After harvesting and careful sorting, the berries undergo pneumatic pressing. For this Pommard 1er Cru "Les Epenots" 2023, the wine is then transferred into oak barrels, 30 to 35% of which are new, for an ageing period of 14 to 18 months. It is during this phase that malolactic fermentation takes place. The final blend is made in tank about a month before bottling, which follows the lunar calendar, with no fining and only very light filtration.

    Grape variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
