    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 by Vincent Girardin

    Tasting

    Colour
The wine reveals a lovely pale yellow hue lit by golden highlights, a luminous colour that tends to take on deeper nuances with age.

    Nose
The bouquet is both delicate and highly complex. It exudes floral and green notes of hawthorn and fern, harmoniously blended with aromas of white fruit, hazelnut and fresh butter. A smoky touch reminiscent of flint underscores the whole.

    Palate
The attack reveals a dense texture and generous volume, carried by assertive minerality and perfectly integrated acidity. The long finish lingers on saline and honeyed notes, offering one of the most taut and vertical expressions of the Côte de Beaune.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with refined seafood such as langoustines, lobster or sole meunière. It also enhances firm-fleshed fish such as roast turbot, white meats in a creamy mushroom sauce and lightly aged hard cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024, it is best served at 12°C. With its fine structure, it can be enjoyed in its youth or cellared for a few years to allow its honeyed notes to blossom.

Vincent Girardin crafts a great Chardonnay with a mineral expression and remarkable finesse

    The estate
The story of Maison Vincent Girardin began in 1980 with the farming of a few family-owned hectares, before the house was officially established in 1982. Based in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy, the brand now spans some one hundred hectares across the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer that began its conversion to biodynamics in 1997, the house has belonged to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois since 2012. Under the guidance of technical director Éric Germain, the estate upholds its identity by crafting wines of great purity that showcase the elegance of their terroirs.

    The vineyard
This wine comes from the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, one of the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune. The grapes are sourced from a selection of renowned climats: Les Grands Champs, Les Petits Grands Champs, La Rue aux Vaches and Les Tremblots. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, are rooted in clay-limestone soils. This distinctive terroir gives the berries optimal concentration and remarkable tension.

    Winemaking and ageing
To craft the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024, the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted in the vineyard. After light crushing, they are gently pressed in pneumatic presses. Once lightly settled, the must is transferred into 228-litre French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations start spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for 16 months, without any lees stirring. One month before bottling, it is racked into tank. Bottling is carried out according to the lunar and biodynamic calendar, after light fining and gentle filtration.
