    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 by Vincent Girardin

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a beautiful pale yellow hue lit up by golden reflections, a luminous colour that tends to gain deeper nuances with years of cellaring.

    Nose
The bouquet is both delicate and highly complex. It exudes floral and vegetal scents of hawthorn and fern, harmoniously mingled with aromas of white fruits, hazelnut and fresh butter. The whole is underlined by a smoky touch reminiscent of gunflint.

    Palate
The attack reveals a dense texture and beautiful volume, carried by an assertive minerality and perfectly integrated acidity. The finish lingers on saline and honeyed notes, offering one of the most taut and vertical expressions of the Côte de Beaune.

    Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with refined seafood such as langoustines, lobster or a sole meunière. It also enhances firm-fleshed fish such as roasted turbot, white meats in creamy mushroom sauce, as well as lightly aged hard cheeses.

    Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 12°C. Endowed with a beautiful structure, it can be enjoyed in its youth or kept for a few years in the cellar to allow its honeyed notes to blossom.

    The estate
The story of the Vincent Girardin House began in 1980 with the cultivation of a few family hectares, before being officially established in 1982. Based in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy, the brand today extends over around a hundred hectares across the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer with a biodynamic conversion initiated in 1997, the house has belonged since 2012 to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois. Under the leadership of technical director Éric Germain, the estate perpetuates its identity by producing wines of great purity that showcase the elegance of their terroirs.

    The vineyard
This wine comes from the Puligny-Montrachet appellation, one of the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune. The grapes come from a selection of renowned climats: Les Grands Champs, Les Petits Grands Champs, La Rue aux Vaches and Les Tremblots. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, sink their roots into clay-limestone soils. This specific terroir gives the berries optimal concentration and remarkable tension.

    Winemaking and aging
For the creation of the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024, the grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted right from the vine. After light crushing, they are gently pressed in pneumatic presses. Once lightly racked, the must is transferred into 228-litre French oak barrels, comprising 15% new wood. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations begin spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for 16 months, without any bâtonnage. One month before bottling, it is racked into vat. Bottling takes place according to the lunar and biodynamic calendar, after light fining and gentle filtration.
