Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Riesling Trocken 2025 from Weingut Dönnhoff
Tasting notes
Appearance
A clear, pale straw-yellow colour with silvery or greenish highlights, offering a strikingly pure, often crystalline look.
Nose
Precise, fresh and intense, it reveals aromas of citrus, green apple and white peach. The whole is delicately underscored by subtle herbaceous notes and a mineral touch reminiscent of gunflint.
Palate
The attack is lively and refreshing, carried by a fine acid tension. The body is slender and elegant, revealing a pure expression that stretches into a straight, saline and deeply mineral finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood such as shellfish, oysters or grilled fish. It also goes very well with vegetable-based cuisine (asparagus, fennel, salads), lightly spiced Asian dishes, or everyday fare such as roast poultry and fresh cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
The Riesling Trocken 2025 is ideally enjoyed at a temperature between 8 and 12°C. It can be drunk until around 2028.
The Pure, Mineral Expression of the Nahe by Weingut Dönnhoff
The estate
The Weingut Dönnhoff is an emblematic 28-hectare estate located in the Nahe region. Although the family has been settled here since the mid-18th century, the modern, specialised wine estate was founded in 1971 under the impetus of Helmut Dönnhoff. Today, the estate is run by his son, Cornelius Dönnhoff, who carries on a tradition of excellence. Recognised worldwide for its stylistic precision, the estate brings out the best of a mosaic of complex terroirs to produce wines of great purity, perfectly reflecting the unique identity of this German region.
The vineyard
The grapes come from very steep slopes around Oberhausen, in the heart of the Nahe. The vines, aged 15 to 40 years, thrive in very stony soils. This exceptional terroir is rich in weathered volcanic rocks, notably porphyry and melaphyre, combined with layers of slate and quartzite. This unique geology ensures excellent drainage and gives the wine its characteristic mineral backbone. Yields are kept in check at around 60 hl/ha, and vineyard management involves rigorous manual work because of the steepness of the slopes.
Winemaking and ageing
After a selective hand harvest, the grapes for the Riesling Trocken 2025 undergo an extremely meticulous winemaking process. Fermentation and ageing take place together in stainless steel tanks and large oak foudres. This method preserves aromatic freshness and purity of fruit while lending an elegant texture and a perfect integration of the various components of this German wine.
