Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a clean, subtle and well-defined bouquet with attractive wild strawberry, Morello and redcurrant scents. The oak here is much better integrated compared to the Clos de Vougeot from Hudelot-Noëllat. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. I appreciate the purity here, the balance and poise, the manner in which it gently fans out on the finish. Excellent—this is another impressive showing from Bouchard Père et Fils. Tasted September 2017.

Very perfumed with plenty of strawberry, rose-petal and stem aromas. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a lightly stemmy finish. The 50% whole-cluster vinification gives this a bounce. Drink or hold.

Good dark red, not hugely saturated. Cool, medicinal scents of black cherry, spices and herbs. Juicy, pure and youthfully imploded, conveying excellent energy to its black fruit and licorice flavors. Not a fleshy wine but still easier to taste today than the 2015. Crisp acidity and savory minerality contribute to its penetrating quality, but there's nothing hard about this wine. Finishes with firm, ripe tannins and excellent length.

Since the 2005 vintage, it has come from a blend of 2 plots (vinified together) totaling 0.42 hectares of vines planted at the top and bottom of this climat, both on the Vosne-Romanée side. This is a friendly Clos de Vougeot with reserved fabric. Vinification with no less than 50% whole clusters gives it juicy fruit, with delicious aromas of cherries and wild strawberries, a velvety palate, soft tannins, and a feminine character, leading to the pleasure of earlier drinking to enjoy its youthful fruit.

    Description

A Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru wine combining finesse and character

    The estate
Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest houses of Bourgogne. The estate covers 130 hectares, a significant portion of which consists of classified vineyards producing wines renowned for their great finesse.

    The vineyard
Clos Vougeot, located in the village of Vougeot, is a historic vineyard dating back to 1110. Today, around 80 owners share this prestigious 50-hectare clos. The soils vary from the top to the bottom of the appellation, with gravelly and limestone soils on the upper slope, and brown, marly, and clayey soils in the lower part.

    Winemaking and aging
Grapes are harvested by hand, followed by a careful sorting of each cluster. After total or partial destemming according to the vintage’s requirements, fermentation takes place in small vats, followed by gentle pressing. The maceration lasts 18 to 21 days. Aging in French oak barrels, 45 to 60% of which are new, lasts 12 to 14 months.

    Grape variety

This 2014 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from Bouchard Père & Fils is 100% Pinot Noir.
