The elegance and minerality of a Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru white wine by Bruno Colin
The estate
Born from the division of the family estate in 2003, Domaine Bruno Colin is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy, in France. Led by Bruno Colin, who crafted his first vintage in 2004, the estate covers around 8.55 hectares spread across some fifty micro-plots. Breaking away from the rounder style of his elders, the winemaker favours an approach focused on the purity and minerality of the terroirs. The estate stands out for its demanding, environmentally respectful viticulture, aiming to offer a crystal-clear expression of its appellations.
The vineyard
The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Maltroie" cuvée comes from a small 0.55-hectare plot located in the "Ez Crets" lieu-dit. Resting on clay-limestone soils, this terroir is cultivated according to organic principles, including regular ploughing and mechanical soil work. The vineyard is characterised by a wonderful diversity of vine ages, with plantings from 1952, 1960, 1989 and 2023, bringing both depth and vibrancy to the harvest.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes destined for this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Maltroie" 2024 are hand-harvested and undergo rigorous double sorting, first in the vineyard and then in the cellar. After gentle pneumatic pressing and settling, fermentation takes place on fine lees. Ageing lasts 12 months in 350-litre oak barrels, comprising 15 to 20% new wood. The wine is then blended and refined in stainless steel tanks for 4 to 6 months before bottling.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
