Characteristics and tasting tips for L'Aphrodisiaque 2019 by David Léclapart
Tasting
Nose
The nose opens with ripe citrus fruit and orange zest, layered with delicate notes of biscuit. Rich in finesse, it unfolds across several aromatic layers, between lemony freshness, minerality and subtle touches of spice.
Palate
The palate is tapered and juicy, driven by pronounced mineral tension and an uncompromising dryness. The texture is complex and multilayered, with ripe fruit alongside a vibrant acidic framework, making for a tasting experience that is both vibrant and austere.
L'Aphrodisiaque 2019, a single-parcel expression of the chalky terroir of Trépail, crafted by David Léclapart
The estate
The David Léclapart estate was founded in 1996, when David took over the reins following his father's death. It is located in Trépail, a Premier Cru village on the Montagne de Reims in Champagne. A pioneer of biodynamics in the region, David Léclapart farms around three hectares of vines, predominantly planted with Chardonnay. Since 2020, his son Martin has worked alongside him in the vineyard and the cellar, continuing a philosophy founded on purity, energy, pleasure and ecology.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from a single parcel in the village of Trépail, classified Premier Cru on the Montagne de Reims. This Champagne terroir is characterised by the chalky soils typical of the area, which promote good water regulation and deep rooting of the vines, a source of minerality. The vineyard is managed according to biodynamic principles, with natural grass cover between the rows and the exclusive use of biodynamic preparations, without any synthetic chemical products.
Vinification and ageing
L'Aphrodisiaque 2019 is vinified entirely in barrel, a distinctive feature of this vintage that gives it toasty, biscuity nuances. Malolactic fermentation takes place, adding roundness and creamy notes, while the wine is aged on its lees before disgorgement. True to the estate's minimalist approach, no fining, filtration or chaptalisation is carried out, and the wine is bottled with no dosage.
Grape varieties
This cuvée is a blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, both harvested on the Trépail terroir.
