Characteristics and Tasting Tips for L'Astre Blanc de Noirs 2022 by David Léclapart

    Tasting

    Appearance
Presented in a clear glass bottle that reveals the wine's colour at first glance, this blanc de noirs shows a pale, luminous hue, enlivened by a ribbon of fine bubbles that bears witness to careful ageing on the lees.

    Nose
The nose opens with crisp aromas of fresh apple, underpinned by a pronounced minerality reminiscent of the chalky soils of Trépail, before giving way to a delicate brioche note inherited from extended maturation in the cellar.

    Palate
On the palate, this Champagne is full of life, carried by a silky mousse and a saline tension that extend the notes of apple and minerality found on the nose, in an energetic, zero-dosage whole that allows the character of the Pinot Noir to express itself fully.

    Food and wine pairing
L'Astre Blanc de Noirs 2022 pairs beautifully with mild, creamy cheeses, whose texture complements the wine's vivacity and freshness.

    Serving and cellaring
To enjoy all the finesse of L'Astre Blanc de Noirs 2022, we recommend serving it in a wide, tulip-shaped glass, which allows its aromas of apple, minerality and brioche to express themselves fully.

A Pure, Mineral Blanc de Noirs from Domaine David Léclapart in Trépail

    The estate
Domaine David Léclapart is located in Trépail, a Premier Cru village on the Montagne de Reims. David Léclapart took over its management in 1996, succeeding his father, before swiftly converting the vineyard to biodynamic farming, becoming one of the pioneering figures of this approach in Champagne. Today at the head of around 3 hectares of vines, he crafts exacting single-plot cuvées, with no dosage, and now works alongside his son Martin, continuing a philosophy founded on purity and respect for terroir.

    The vineyard
The grapes for L'Astre Blanc de Noirs come from the family vineyard in Trépail, a Premier Cru village on the south-eastern slope of the Montagne de Reims, in Champagne. The Pinot Noir vines are planted on chalky marl soils and farmed according to biodynamic principles, with manual work and particular attention paid to each plot.

    Vinification and ageing
L'Astre Blanc de Noirs 2022 is vinified according to David Léclapart's minimal-intervention philosophy, with fermentations carried out solely by the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes. The wine comes from a single vintage, with no blending of reserve wines, and is then aged on the lees for several years in tanks or barrels, before being bottled with no dosage at all, as a Brut Nature.

    Grape variety
This cuvée is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, vinified as a white wine to produce a blanc de noirs.
