The authentic expression of a Pinot Noir in Coteaux Champenois from the Drappier estate

    The estate

Officially founded in 1808 in Urville, in the Côte des Bar, the Champagne house Drappier is an iconic figure of the region. The estate owns approximately 60 hectares of vines outright, with a total cultivated area reaching 112 hectares together with its partners. Now led by Michel Drappier, representing the seventh generation, the estate stands out for its pioneering approach. A committed advocate of Pinot Noir, the estate favours sustainable viticulture, with organic certification across a large part of its vineyards, and is known for its minimal-intervention winemaking.

    The vineyard

This Coteaux Champenois wine comes exclusively from a single plot called "Les Egrillers", located on the terroir of Urville. This organically certified vineyard benefits from a due south exposure, ideal for grape ripening. The vines flourish on Kimmeridgian limestone soils dating back to the Jurassic period, rich in marine fossils—a unique geology that promotes optimal drainage and gives the fruit a distinctive character.

    The vintage

2020 forms part of a trilogy of warm, exceptional vintages (2018-2020) for the region. These particularly favourable weather conditions allowed for optimal phenolic ripeness and sugar concentration, transforming the grapes to deliver a rich, voluptuous profile, ideal for still wine production.

    Winemaking and aging

The making of Permission 2020 is rooted in a philosophy of natural winemaking taken to its fullest extent. After the harvest, the berries undergo an extended 14-day maceration. Fermentation begins spontaneously through indigenous yeasts, with no inoculation whatsoever. The wine is then aged for four years in oak barrels crafted from local wood sourced from the Forêt d'Orient, before being bottled without filtration.

    Grape variety

    100% Pinot Noir.
