    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for La Closerie's "Les Béguines" Extra Brut LC22 Champagne

    Tasting

    Color
This sparkling white wine reveals a straw-copper hue with subtle golden highlights. The mousse, fine and persistent, forms a delicate cordon at the surface.

    Nose
The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe yellow fruits such as pear and white peach, enhanced by citrus notes. With aeration, it reveals a lovely complexity with hints of toasted bread and brioche, along with a chalky minerality, rounded out by subtle spicy and floral nuances.

    Palate
Full-bodied and textured, the palate offers juicy, fruit-driven flesh, perfectly balanced by lively acidity and an ever-present minerality. Aging on the lees brings a creamy sensation that envelops tannins of great finesse. The finish lingers on chalky notes and white spice.

    Food and wine pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with raw seafood such as oysters or a white fish carpaccio. It also goes very well with cooked dishes such as citrus-glazed poultry, pan-seared scallops, mushroom risotto, or fresh goat cheese.

    Serving and cellaring

The "Les Béguines" Extra Brut LC22 Champagne needs a few years of cellaring to reveal its full aromatic potential. It can be enjoyed at its best until around 2037.

The Authentic Expression of the Gueux Terroir by La Closerie Estate in Champagne

    The Estate

The history of the La Closerie estate began in 1987 when Jérôme Prévost inherited a family vineyard in Gueux, Champagne. Still at the helm of the estate today, he embodies an artisanal and deeply non-interventionist approach. Strongly influenced by his encounter with Anselme Selosse, the winemaker favors the natural expression of the fruit and the terroir. With avant-garde methods, the estate has earned remarkable international recognition, producing wines of rare intensity that challenge the region's traditional codes.

    The Vineyard

Located in the commune of Gueux, northwest of the Montagne de Reims in Champagne, the "Les Béguines" plot covers 2.2 hectares. This terroir stands out for its atypical Thanetian-age geology, combining calcareous sands, marine fossils, and clay, quite unlike the region's traditional pure chalk. The vines, planted in the early 1960s through massal selection on quality rootstocks, benefit from deep rooting. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, without synthetic chemicals, with natural cover crops and exclusively hand-harvested grapes picked at optimal ripeness.

    The Blend

This cuvée is crafted from the 2022 harvest, a year marked by arid, sunny weather, complemented by around 20% reserve wines from the 2021 vintage to bring perfect balance to the final structure.

    Winemaking and Aging

The winemaking of "Les Béguines" Extra Brut LC22 is carried out naturally with indigenous yeasts. Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels of various sizes that are not topped up, allowing a light veil to develop, which brings subtle complexity. After aging on the lees for about ten months, without fining or filtration, the wine is bottled for its second fermentation. It then rests on the lees for about eighteen months before disgorgement.
