    Description

Tasting notes and recommendations for La Closerie's Les Béguines Extra Brut "LC23"

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a brilliant light gold colour, enhanced by fine, lively bubbles.

    Nose
Remarkably deep, the aromatic bouquet opens on notes of yellow fruits such as greengage plum and pear, intertwined with orange zest. It then evolves towards aromas of toasted almond, herbal infusions, flint and chalk, rounded off by a delicate smoky touch.

    Palate
Both dense and taut, the palate stands out for its vinous character and vibrant energy. A beautiful mineral salinity carries the tasting through to a remarkably long finish, marked by the purity of the terroir and subtle spicy notes.

    Food and wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as grilled sea bass, premium sushi, scallop carpaccio with citrus or sweetbreads with morels.

    Serving and ageing

Designed to stand the test of time thanks to its exceptional structure and extended ageing, Les Béguines Extra Brut "LC23" will evolve remarkably over the years to reveal its full complexity.

The brilliance and precision of a great champagne from La Closerie

    The estate

Founded in 1998 in Gueux, the La Closerie estate was born from the legacy of a small parcel of vines inherited by Jérôme Prévost in 1987. Today run by Jérôme and his wife Agnès Prévost, this family property has shaken up the conventions of the Champagne region by revealing the exceptional potential of the Pinot Meunier grape. Through a demanding philosophy of minimal intervention and absolute respect for nature, La Closerie has established itself as an essential reference, producing wines of remarkable purity that captivate enthusiasts around the world.

    The vineyard

Sourced from the historic Les Béguines parcel, this cuvée comes from a 2.2-hectare terroir located in Gueux, in the Petite Montagne de Reims. The vines, planted in the early 1960s through massal selection, thrive at around 120 metres of altitude on sandy-loam soils resting on a limestone bedrock rich in marine fossils. The Champagne estate places a deep respect for the ecosystem at the heart of its approach, having stopped all use of insecticides in 1994 and herbicides in 1996, thus fostering a natural balance.

    The blend

Although this wine is non-vintage, the designation "LC23" indicates that all the grapes come from the 2023 harvest, a year that allowed the singularity and precision of the terroir to be fully expressed.

    Winemaking and ageing

The harvest is carried out entirely by hand. Fermentation of Les Béguines Extra Brut "LC23" begins spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on its full lees for ten months in used oak barrels of various capacities, ranging from 225 to 600 litres. Bottling takes place without any fining or filtration. Finally, extended ageing on laths lasts fourteen to seventeen months before disgorgement with a very low dosage.
