Based on the 2011 vintage with 15% reserve wines from 2010, the Minière brothers' NV Brut Influence was disgorged with five grams per liter dosage in June 2018. It's showing beautifully, offering up aromas of fresh peach, preserved citrus and frangipane, framed by a light patina of oak from its fermentation in barrel. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and vinous, with a muscular, layered profile underpinned by racy acids and complemented by a delicate mousse. Concentrated and intense, it concludes with a penetrating, saline finish.

    Decanter

Fulsome and oaky, quite tightly wound, with woody notes partnering crunchy red berry fruit. Fairly complex, if a little heavy.

Light yellow. Deeply pitched aromas of peach nectar, honey, buttered toast and smoky oak. Sappy, chewy and expansive on the palate, with ripe, spice-accented orchard and pit fruit flavors braced by juicy acidity. Reminds me a lot of a top-notch Meursault. Finishes broad, smoky and very long, with firm mineral cut and suave floral character.

A champagne shaped by the influence of barrel aging

    The estate

Founded in 1919 by Alfred Minière, the Maison Minière F&R is now run by Frédéric and Rodolphe Minière, representing the fourth generation. Based in Hermonville, at the gateway to the Montagne de Reims, the estate farms around 8 hectares of organically grown vines. Trained alongside Anselme Selosse, Frédéric introduced barrel aging and organic viticulture. Minière F&R Champagne remains Hermonville’s only grower-producer, cultivating a distinctive terroir with no chalk.

    The vineyard

The vineyard stretches across Hermonville’s unique terroir in Champagne, where silt-clay-sand soils lie over a lacustrine limestone subsoil. The grapes come from three distinct named sites: Les Couturelles for Pinot Meunier, Les Fosselles for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Les Fontenelles, devoted exclusively to Chardonnay.

    The blend

This non-vintage cuvée is the result of a blend of two harvests: 85% of the grapes come from the 2022 vintage, complemented by 15% from the 2021 harvest.

    Winemaking and aging

Influence Brut Non Millésimé stands out for vinification carried out entirely in French oak barrels for 8 months on lees. The barrel stock consists of 30% young barrels less than 4 years old and 70% older barrels aged 5 years and up. Bottling took place in June 2023 in special bottles, followed by 3 years of cellar aging. Disgorgement is carried out more than 6 months prior to release. The bottles are sealed with a traditional natural cork of “fleur” quality.
