Comprising 44% wine from the 2021 vintage and 56% reserve wines held in perpetual reserve, Philipponnat’s NV Réserve Perpétuelle Brut—formerly known as Brut Royale Réserve—opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe peach, red berries, pear and pastry. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and textural, delivering a generous, enveloping style energized by racy acidity. While the base vintage is vinified primarily in stainless steel, the reserve wines are stored in oak, and the wine undergoes partial malolactic fermentation. This bottling was disgorged in December 2024 with a dosage of eight grams per liter.

A baseline of chalky minerality supports juicy pear and white cherry fruit, lemon peel and pickled ginger alongside rich accents of crystallized honey and biscuit in this sleek and creamy Champagne. Harmonious and finely knit, with good length through the lightly spiced finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now through 2030. 5,000 cases made, 100 cases imported.

The NV Brut Réserve Perpetuelle is bright and focused. Kirsch, dried lemon peel, pear, mint and dried flowers are nicely delineated in this mid-weight offering. Hints of spice and a kiss of French oak, along with the dosage of 8 grams per liter, support the creamy, expansive finish. Disgorged: November 2024.

The NV Champagne Reserve Perpetuelle Brut is a bright straw color and is from the 2021 base vintage. Beginning with this release, they have changed the name of this cuvée to better reflect the method of production, which utilizes their perpetual reserve as a key component in the blend, although it’s the same as it’s always been. Made from 66% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay, and the rest Meunier, the nose is inviting and pure, with gorgeous red fruits that shine brightly in this release, and while it has intensity, it’s approachable and pretty, with notes of almond, peaches, red berries, and fresh bread. The mousse is elegant and integrates nicely into the wine. Drink now or over the coming 6-8 years. Disgorged in January 2025. 8 grams per liter dosage.

The texture and richness of a Brut Champagne by Philipponnat

    The estate
Established for nearly five centuries in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, the Maison de Champagne Philipponnat is one of the historic names of the region. Singularity, excellence, generosity and simplicity are the values that guide this house, whose spirit has remained family-run. Owned by the house since 1935, the mythical Clos des Goisses is one of the oldest and most prestigious clos in Champagne. This jewel is the source of rare champagnes endowed with exceptional power.

    The vineyard
Réserve Perpétuelle Brut draws its strength from the great Pinot Noir terroirs around Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, at the heart of the Champagne appellation. These exceptional vineyards benefit from privileged exposures and soils conducive to the expression of this noble grape variety.

This cuvée succeeds the Royale Réserve cuvée.

    Winemaking and aging
This emblematic cuvée is based on a perpetual reserve system initiated in 1946. With each new harvest, the blend is enriched with reserve wines kept in oak barrels and large casks. The 2021 base harvest is thus complemented by 56% reserve wines aged in wood, creating a perpetual cycle that imparts complexity and depth while preserving freshness.

Vinification in vats and in wood while avoiding any premature oxidation. Partial malolactic fermentation precedes barrel aging to develop aromatic complexity. This Brut Champagne benefits from three years of aging and a dosage of 8 g/liter.

    Grape varieties
Pinot Noir (66%), Chardonnay (32%) and Pinot Meunier (2%).
