Description

Champagne with Elegance and Power

Pol Roger Champagne sold its first wine in 1849 and five generations later, this Champagne House has continued his legacy. After his first sale, the company developed quickly – within thirty years the brand acquired a great amount of recognition. After Pol’s death in 1899, his sons Maurice and Georges took over the company and grew the firm worldwide. In the 1900s, Pol Roger was serve in all the top restaurants on the Champs-Elysees and by 1955, the brand was declared “the most delightful address in the world” by Winston Churchill. The House’s success and range of wines expanded – first came the Champagne rosé, and next was the celebrated Cuvée named after Winston Churchill. Today, on its fifth generation, the House looks to continue their key values of excellence and independence with each champagne they make.

The Pol Roger Brut Reserve is elegant and refined. Blended with equal parts of the three champenois grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. The Chardonnay comes from 30 different crus and 25% reserve wines are used to produce this exceptional cuvee. The Champagne is consistently crisp, zesty and bursting with citrus fruit notes. The Pinot Noir grapes bring structure and power to the wine, while the Pinot Meunier brings roundness and fruitiness, and the Chardonnay offers aromatics and complexity. After the grapes are harvested they are delicately pressed. Fermentation happens in a temperature controlled stainless steel vats. All wines go through malolactic fermentation, then it is blended and secondary fermentation takes place. Each bottle is hand riddled before disgorging and dosage and then is aged for an additional three years before being released. Ageing for a total of four years in the cellar not only adds complexity and balance but it is also above the appellation standards. The Champagne has beautiful and abundant fine bubbles. On the nose the wine is prominent with fresh fruit such as pear, honeysuckle lemon zest and brioche. On the palate, the wine has racy acidity, freshness and vibrancy from the first sip. The wine has a long finish of citrus and a hint of cardamom spice.
