    Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Coffret Brut Réserve & 2 Flûtes Lehmann Absolus de Pol Roger

    Tasting

    Color
The wine displays a pale to golden hue, enlivened by a fine, abundant effervescence that reflects the slow aging in the cellars.

    Nose
Powerful and expressive, the nose reveals beautiful aromatic complexity. Fruit aromas dominate, with notes of pear, mango, and stone fruits, complemented by nuances of crusty bread and lemon. Delicate floral touches of honeysuckle and white jasmine mingle with notes of vanilla and brioche, with a subtle spicy dimension.

    Palate
The attack is clean and dynamic, followed by a vibrant core of fruit. The creamy mousse and fine bead persist across the palate. Flavors of cooked fruit—especially quince jelly and apricot jam—harmonize with hints of beeswax and acacia honey. Lively acidity brings freshness and energy. The finish lingers long, with notes of candied orange peel, tangerine, cardamom, and anise, accompanied by a mineral, saline touch.

    Food and wine pairings

The versatile Champagne par excellence, Brut Réserve is ideally enjoyed as an aperitif. It pairs perfectly with oysters and seafood, grilled fish such as salmon, seafood or vegetable risottos, as well as scallop dishes. It also matches well with lightly salty aged cheeses and fresh fruit tarts.

    Serving and cellaring

This Champagne is served at a temperature between 8 and 10°C in a generously curved glass. Designed to be enjoyed upon release, the non-vintage Brut Réserve can be cellared and will evolve favorably for an additional 3 to 4 years, developing more toasty and complex nuances.

A renowned Champagne presented in an elegant gift box

    The estate

Founded in 1849 in Épernay by Pol Roger, then only 18 years old, the Pol Roger House remains today one of the few fully independent, family-owned Grandes Marques of Champagne. It is currently led by Laurent d'Harcourt as president and Hubert de Billy, the founder’s great-great-grandson. Pol Roger enjoys a long-standing historic relationship with the British Crown, holding successive Royal Warrants since Queen Victoria in 1877. The House is also famed for its legendary friendship with Winston Churchill, whom it honors through its prestige cuvée Sir Winston Churchill. Bastien Collard de Billy, representing the sixth generation, joined the management team in 2020, ensuring the continuity of this exceptional Champagne institution.

    The vineyard

Pol Roger controls around 92 hectares of vineyards classified as Premier Cru and Grand Cru, strategically spread across 23 villages in Champagne, mainly in the Vallée d'Épernay and the Côte des Blancs. Among these terroirs are the prestigious Grands Crus of Avize, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Cramant, and Verzy. These vineyards provide about half of the grapes required for production, with the remainder sourced from a network of 180 acres of additional vineyards managed by partner growers with whom the House maintains long-term relationships. Pol Roger’s underground cellars, among the deepest in Champagne, extend for 10 kilometers at a depth of 33 meters below street level, maintaining a constant temperature of 9 degrees Celsius that promotes slow, optimal aging.

    The cuvée

The non-vintage Brut Réserve is based on wines from the 2021 vintage, complemented by 25 to 30% reserve wines from the 2020, 2019, and 2018 vintages. This multi-vintage blend ensures the consistency of the House style while adding complexity and aromatic depth. This exceptional gift set brings together a bottle of Champagne Pol Roger Brut Réserve accompanied by two flutes from the Absolus collection, created by the Lehmann glassmaker. An elegant ensemble that celebrates the art of Champagne tasting according to the rules of the craft.

    Winemaking and aging

After harvest, the grapes are immediately and gently pressed. The must undergoes a first settling at the press, followed by a second cold settling at 6°C for 24 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a low temperature, at 18°C, in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with each grape variety and village production kept separate until the final blending. All wines undergo complete malolactic fermentation. After blending and bottling, the secondary fermentation and aging take place in Pol Roger’s cool cellars for four years. Each bottle is traditionally hand-riddled before disgorgement and dosage, then rests for an additional three months before release. The latest available batch was disgorged in October 2024.
