    Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Veuve Clicquot Extra Brut Extra Old 5 Champagne

    Tasting Nose

The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely citrus freshness, reminiscent of lemon and grapefruit. It then evolves toward indulgent pastry notes, frangipane and toasted bread, delicately underscored by touches of dried fruits such as hazelnut and almond, along with subtle floral nuances of linden blossom and lemon verbena.

    Palate

From the very first sip, the wine shows a lively character marked by an elegant salinity. The palate reveals vibrant citrus flavors, notably yuzu and lime, harmoniously intertwined with brioche and toasted bread aromas. Light touches of roasted almond and delicate spices, such as ginger and white pepper, round off this complex tasting experience.

    Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with umami-rich dishes or Asian cuisine such as sushi or tataki. It will also beautifully enhance seafood, such as white fish cooked en papillote or ceviche, as well as white meats in sauce. Finally, vegetarian pairings featuring grilled vegetables or fresh cheese will also make excellent choices.

    Serving and Aging

To fully appreciate the Extra Brut Extra Old 5, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 8 and 10°C, ideally in Prestige-style glasses. With exceptional aging potential, this wine can be cellared for more than 15 years.

    Other Characteristics

This sparkling wine has a very low sugar dosage of 3 g/L, placing it in the extra brut category. Its alcohol content is 12%.

The Excellence of a Great Champagne from Veuve Clicquot

    The Estate

Founded in 1772, the famous Veuve Clicquot house was profoundly shaped by the boldness of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, a pioneer who revolutionized the making of sparkling wines. Located in the Champagne region, the estate today relies on a vast vineyard of approximately 390 hectares, spread across exceptional terroirs. Owned by the LVMH group since 1986, the house continues to uphold its legacy of excellence and innovation. It is currently led by Jean-Marc Gallot, who will be succeeded by Thomas Mulliez as Chairman and CEO in the fall of 2025.

    The Vineyard

The vines extend across some of Champagne's most prestigious terroirs, including plots classified as Grand Cru and Premier Cru. Spread across the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs, they benefit from a remarkable diversity of soils and microclimates. The bottles then rest in the house's historic underground chalk cellars, known as "crayères", which offer ideal conditions of temperature and darkness.

    The Blend

This fifth edition is a cuvée crafted exclusively from the house's reserve wines. The blend precisely brings together seven remarkable historic vintages: 1996, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, offering remarkable depth and complexity.

    Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Extra Brut Extra Old 5 stands out for its particularly meticulous double-aging process. First, the reserve wines are aged in tanks on fine lees. Then, after bottling, the wine continues to mature on lees in the estate's cellars for a minimum of three years.
