The power and roundness of a Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru

    The estate

Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, a cooper by trade, Champy is Burgundy’s oldest négociant house and remains the last production site still in operation in the heart of Beaune. Owned by the Meurgey family since 1990, it farms 21 hectares of vines in the Côte de Beaune, stretching from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. The house stands out for its remarkable scientific heritage, having notably worked with Louis Pasteur on the pasteurization of wines in the 19th century. Its historic 15th-century cellars extend over nearly one kilometer of underground galleries. The vineyard is certified 50% in organic farming and 50% in High Environmental Value.

    The vineyard

Charmes-Chambertin spans 29 hectares within the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits in Côte d'Or. This Grand Cru benefits from an exceptional terroir of limestone with a fine proportion of clay marls. The vines are planted between 240 and 280 meters above sea level and enjoy an ideal east-facing exposure. These geological and climatic conditions allow Pinot Noir to express all its power and roundness, characteristic of the appellation.

    Grape variety

This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 is made from 100% Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy.
