    Description

The freshness and elegance of a velvety Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé

    The estate
A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé since 2012, Château de Ferrand is a property with unique charm, overlooking the Dordogne Valley. Constructed in 1702, Château de Ferrand boasts a superb architecture in a classical style.

    The vineyard
The Château Ferrand vineyard covers 42 hectares in total out of which 32 hectares of productive vines in one piece. The vines are planted at the end of the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, on a ledge overlooking the curve of the Dordogne Valley. This location allows for excellent drainage of the soil by runoff, which, combined with an ideal altitude and exposure, helps produce fantastic Saint-Emilion red wines.

    The vintage
At Château de Ferrand, the 2019 vintage will be remembered for significant climatic variations, which affected the entire Bordeaux wine region. The mild winter led to an early bud break. Episodes of frost in April and May spared the Château de Ferrand vineyard. July and August then brought high temperatures with significant heatwaves. Thankfully, the clay soils upon limestone allowed the vines to withstand water stress. The thermal amplitude between day and night temperatures in September allowed for a slow and healthy ripening of the fruit. The 2019 harvest began on September 19. During this year, the technical teams at Château de Ferrand worked very hard to react as quickly as possible to the changes in climate.

    The blend
    Merlot (73%), cabernet franc (27%).

    The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Château de Ferrand 2019 seduces with its bright aromatic bouquet, charming nose and notes of fresh fruit. The smoothness of Merlot is balanced by the beautiful freshness of Cabernet Franc. The palate is velvety, structured by beautiful tannins, combining freshness and finesse. Endowed with great elegance and a beautiful aromatic intensity, the Château de Ferrand 2019 is undoubtedly a promising vintage, with a fantastic potential for age.
