Tasting Characteristics and Advice for Château La Louvière 2019

    Tasting

    Color

The wine displays a deep, brilliant red color, enlivened by ruby highlights and subtle violet nuances.

    Nose

The nose reveals a generous bouquet of ripe red fruits, with notes of cherry and blackcurrant that blend harmoniously with delicate oaky touches. Aeration unveils fine aromatic complexity, with fragrances of stone fruits, cachou and tobacco, accompanied by floral notes and a light toasted touch. Hints of white pepper and verbena bring an herbal freshness that balances the whole.

    Palate

The attack is straightforward and powerful, revealing a firm, tight tannic structure that perfectly supports the fruit expression. The mid-palate shows lovely complexity with aromas of black and red fruits, accompanied by perfectly integrated vanilla and lightly toasted notes. The tannins, fine and well-coated, add succulence and roundness. The finish lingers with persistence, leaving an impression of elegance and tension that speaks to fine aging potential.

    Food and wine pairings

This red wine from Pessac-Léognan pairs ideally with red meats and herb-crusted lamb. It also matches very well with roasted poultry, feathered game such as wild duck or roast hare, as well as sauced dishes such as beef bourguignon. Hard cheeses such as Cantal or Beaufort also make excellent pairings.

    Serving and aging

Château La Louvière 2019 can be enjoyed now but will gain in complexity over time. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C. This wine can be cellared until around 2032, during which time it will fully express its potential.

    Other characteristics

This wine is certified HVE3 (High Environmental Value), reflecting the estate’s commitment to sustainable, environmentally friendly winegrowing practices.

An Elegant, Structured Pessac-Léognan from Château La Louvière

    The estate

Château La Louvière, located in Léognan in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, is a wine estate of remarkable historical richness. Founded in 1310, it was transformed into a modern vineyard between 1510 and 1550 by Pierre de Guilloche. In 1620, it was entrusted to the Carthusian monks, who established its winemaking reputation. Acquired by André Lurton in 1965, the château was carefully restored and is now listed as a Historic Monument. The estate, still managed by the Lurton family, is renowned for its outstanding white and red wines.

    The vineyard

The vineyard of Château La Louvière stretches across deep gravel soils, characteristic of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. These gravelly terroirs, combined with limestone and clay-limestone elements in the lower-lying areas, give the wines their elegance and mineral precision. Harvesting is carried out by hand with successive selections to keep only grapes at optimal ripeness.

    The vintage

The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux benefited from exceptional weather conditions. After a mild winter that led to early budbreak and a spring with moderate rainfall, the summer saw a pronounced drought early in the season. Welcome rains in August allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes, encouraging the development of ripe, concentrated fruit while preserving the freshness necessary for the wines’ balance. Harvesting began on September 18, 2019.

    Vinification and aging

Vinification of Château La Louvière 2019 is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks, allowing precise control of fermentation temperatures. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 225-liter barrels, 40 to 50% new oak, with rackings every three months. Part of the aging also takes place in terracotta amphorae, adding an additional textural dimension to the final blend.

    Grape varieties

Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot, cabernet franc.
