    Description

The balance and aromatic palette of a Pessac-Léognan wine

    The estate

The name of Château La Louvière suggests that the origins of the estate hark back to the 13th century, when the provost of Léognan Guilhem de la Louvière would have given his name to the castle. After having shone in the hands of the Guilloche and Chartreux families, in 1791 the estate became the property of Jean-Baptiste Marheilac, a great merchant from Bordeaux. He asked François Lhote to build the superb castle which still stands out today as one of the most beautiful of Bordeaux. Thanks to the great attention paid by the Marheilac family, who remained the owners for more than two centuries, the estate's wines stand out as some of the greatest wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Today, the château belongs to the family of André Lurton, a great Bordeaux wine family.

    The vineyard

Château La Louvière 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a 46-hectare vineyard. The vines are 27 years old on average and are planted on deep gravel soils. Thanks to its environmentally friendly viticultural practices, the château is a High Environmental Value estate (Level 3/3).

    The vintage

The year 2021 is marked by unstable weather. A major frost episode in April preceded strong mildew pressure and then a particularly cool summer. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which predominantly makes up the blend, is the grape variety which benefited most from the mild conditions at the end of summer.

    Vinification and ageing

Following manual harvesting, a complete vinification is carried out in several types of containers: wooden rolls, 500-litre barrels and terracotta amphorae. Long vatting time. Aged for 12 months in barrels (40-50% new) and 15% in terracotta amphorae.

    The blend

Château La Louvière 2021 red wine comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) and Merlot (35%).
