    Description

A rich and elegant Pessac-Léognan red wine

    The estate

The name of Château La Louvière suggests that the origins of the estate date back to the 13th century, when the provost of Léognan, Guilhem de la Louvière, gave his name to the château. After passing through the hands of the Guilloche and Chartreux families, in 1791 the château became the property of Jean-Baptiste Marheilac, a major Bordeaux merchant. He had François Lhote build the superb château which is still today one of the most beautiful in the Bordeaux vineyards. Thanks to the good care of the Marheilac family, which remained the owners for more than two centuries, the wines of the estate have become one of the greatest wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Today, the château belongs to the André Lurton family, an important Bordeaux wine family.

    The vineyard

Château La Louvière 2022 is a Pessac-Léognan wine made from a vineyard of 71 hectares. The vines are 28 years old on average and are planted on deep gravel. Thanks to its environmentally friendly viticulture, the château is recognised as a High Environmental Value estate (Level 3/3).

    The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by very varying climates, from an early spring frost to a dry summer. Despite reduced yields due to these weather conditions, the grapes harvested are of exceptional quality.

    Winemaking and ageing

After the harvest, a complete vinification (20% of the total volume) was carried out in several types of containers: wooden rolls, 500-litre barrels and terracotta amphorae. Long vatting time. Aged for 12 months in barrels (40-50% new) and 15% in terracotta amphorae.

    Blend

Château La Louvière Rouge 2022 is a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%).
