    Vinum

Intense nose, radiant fruit, cassis, blackberry, roasted notes, mineral and floral hints. On the palate, linear and taut with power; the chalky terroir comes through, unfortunately with a bit too much extraction and a drying finish.

The 2021 Pavie Macquin offers up aromas of cherries, blackberries and raspberries mingled with mint, spices and bay leaf. Medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of fruit framed by chalky tannins that assert themselves on the comparatively structured, mineral finish, it's a strong effort.

Though leaning to the light, trim aspect of the vintage, this reveals juicy energy behind the red currant and damson plum fruit notes, while red tea, sanguine and singed cedar accents score the finish. Nicely done. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2036. 4,600 cases made.

Gorgeous cool blue fruits, liquorice and a salty nose, smells clean but really expressive. Ripe and round, full and forward, quite extracted with plump/thick fruit, however there’s great depth and energy here, concentrated fruit clearly ripe but also with cool touches of blueberry, cola and wet stones that bring nuance. Nice energy and focus, streamlined but it has great weight and a strong sense of character. Very good – energy and liveliness still with bite and grip from 2021, but a great effort.

A very juicy and rounded young 2021 with berry, chocolate, cedar, balsamic, and redwood aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Velvety tannins. Excellent finish. Extremely well done for the vintage. 79% merlot, 19% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon. Best after 2028.

The 2021 Pavie Maquin has an exquisite bouquet in the context of the growing season, very pure with black plum, redcurrant jus, cassis and violet flowers—lovely definition here. The palate is medium-bodied and cohesive with fine tannins, linear in style but with impressive tension and mineralité. Touches of white pepper and flint surface toward the finish, completing a Saint-Émilion that has perhaps meliorated slightly during its élevage. This comes highly recommended.

    Falstaff

Deep dark ruby, purple hue at the rim. Fine noble wood notes, Black Forest berries, hints of liquorice, dark cherries and cedar. Complex, juicy, ripe plums, blackberry compote, striking freshness, integrated tannins, mineral, persistent, shows good length, surprisingly open; plenty of ageing potential.

The 2021 Château Pavie Macquin is a beautiful wine in the vintage, bringing rock-solid concentration and depth as well as its hallmark purity and elegance. Cassis, blueberries, scorched earth, and violet notes define the aromatics, and it’s medium-bodied, has terrific mid-palate depth, fine tannins, and outstanding length. I love its purity, and it has classic Pavie Macquin character. This beauty will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and evolve gracefully over the following 15+ years. It's clearly a success in this vintage. The blend is 79% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, representing 80% of the total production, with roughly 4,600 cases produced.

Massive, dense color. Very fresh and clear, with great breed and concentrated, super-dense fruit on the intense nose, lots of chocolate and graphite with ethereal spice. Creamy, full and concentrated on the palate, long and powerful, extremely expansive and racy, with a firm structure, very polished and clear. Impressive Pavie-Macquin with tremendous presence and class. Its crystalline acidity gives it great freshness and finely balanced, glass-like tannins.

Concentrated ruby red in colour, this is intense and flavoursome, far more than most in the vintage, with a ton of black cherry and raspberry fruits, and a seriously juicy signoff. Good quality, with finesse and poise, and one to look out for. This is the limestone plateau speaking, I wrote in my En Primeur tasting note, and it is speaking even louder now. 37 hl/ha yield, harvest October 4 to 19, 50% new oak.

    The Wine Independent

    Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2021 Pavie Macquin has a deep garnet-purple color. Fragrant notions of star anise, lilacs, and fertile loam give way to a core of juicy plums and mulberries, plus a touch of dried lavender. The medium-bodied palate delivers an impressive intensity of bright, pure red and black berry flavors, supported by velvety tannins and great tension, finishing on a lingering, exotic spice note.

    La RVF

The 2021 vintage shows a certain aromatic coolness (licorice, herbal notes, smoke...). Considerably less dense than 2020, it reveals itself with vigor and a firm, tense palate. The élevage remains measured and refined. A fresh vintage that will open up over the coming years.

    Le Figaro Vin

A playful nose, delicate yet powerful, like lace woven from a silver thread. With aeration, riper, more opulent notes begin to take the lead. On the palate, the wine is very juicy, pure, and fresh, with breadth that expands across the palate like a balloon before a gourmand finish.

    Yves Beck

Precise, floral and fruity, the bouquet of Pavie Macquin reveals floral and chalky nuances. Certainly more slender than usual, yet no less fresh and subtle. A filigreed wine, mouthwatering and persistent, perfectly supported by its acidic structure that champions its vigor in concert with the tannins. Saline, lingering finish.

Dark, purple color. Moderately intense, fruity nose with a resinous, woody nuance. Delicate on the attack, fruity, the wine gains flavor from the mid-palate onward. It stretches long and perfumed, delicate, with hints of orange. Good length with no tannic edges.

Black and red fruits, with loads of spices and fresh flowers on the nose, make a great introduction to the wine. On the palate, the wine is vibrant, polished, lively, providing the perfect backdrop for all its sweet red fruits. The finish is packed with a blend of crushed rocks and red fruits. The wine blends 79% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2026–2048.
