    Description

The freshness and elegance of a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé

    The estate

Château Pavie Macquin was founded in the 19th century by Albert Macquin, the man who introduced grafted vines to France in order to save the country's vineyards from the destruction caused by phylloxera. Today, the château is still owned by the descendants of Albert Macquin. This Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé is a benchmark for the appellation, and ranks among the world's greatest crus.

    The vineyard

A benchmark among the great wines of Saint-Émilion, Château Pavie Macquin oversees a vineyard of 14.5 hectares, including 12.88 hectares in production. The vines, which are on average 35 years old, are planted on a clay-limestone terroir on the asteriated limestone plateau of the appellation.

    Winemaking and ageing

Whole grapes are vatted by gravity, then vinified by plot in concrete vats. Aged on fine lees for 16 to 20 months in barrels (50% new and 50% one-wine barrels) with a first racking after 6 to 10 months of ageing, then a second one a year later, before bottling.

    Blend

    Merlot (80%)
    Cabernet Franc (19%)
    Cabernet Sauvignon (1%)
