    Vinum

Restrained, very promising maturation spice; incredibly fruity, first-class, well-integrated tannins, only the slightly burning finish currently disrupts the harmony a bit.

    James Molesworth

A ripe but understated style, with alluring notes of black tea and cedar shavings infusing a core of gently mulled black cherry and plum fruit. The sneaky long finish is silky and refined. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2025 through 2036. 8,500 cases made, 3,000 cases imported.

    Decanter

Ripe and rich black fruits on the nose, heady and fully aromatic in a fruit-forward way, with blackcurrants, berries and sweet Ribena edges. Juicy and supple, nicely lively in the mouth, high acidity, with quite present tannins that are a little bit chalky and enjoyably bitter. Lovely viscous texture at first, with plenty of acidity and succulence; feels extremely youthful and on the edgy side right now, yet rounded, forward and full-bodied. It’s on the richer, riper side and has a touch of sweet jamminess alongside spiced nuance and some terroir influence via cool, minty salinity. Extremely likeable and one to watch.

This is seriously structured with blackcurrants, blueberries and iodine. It’s full yet so tight and focused with serious austerity and focus. Very classy and polished with precision. A terrific Siran. Try after 2026.

Full bottle 1,322 g. HVE certified. Inky blackcurrant fruit and masses of black-tea-leaf, astringent tannins. Very dark, almost black, and tasting like night air when you're walking between a freshly ploughed field and woodland. Fresh finish, although those tannins are verging on tough. (TC)

The 2020 Siran is packed with the essence of blackberry jam, mocha, espresso, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and cloves. This dark, sumptuous Margaux is not at all subtle, but it does pack quite the punch. This is an especially opulent style, to be sure.

The complex nose opens with espresso, spice, smoke, mint leaves and an array of red pit fruits. The palate is even better, with layers of creamy, fresh, sweet, luscious fruit, silky tannins, and a touch of chocolate and spice that kicks in at the end of the long finish. Give this a year or two in the cellar and enjoy it over the following two decades. Siran is the best deal in high-quality wine in the Margaux appellation today. Drink from 2024 to 2050.

    Falstaff

Dark ruby, purple reflections, deep core, faint ochre brightening on the rim. Delicate floral background with nuances of cassis and fresh cherries, but also red currants, soft herbal spice, fine bouquet. Taut, elegant, sweet red cherries, integrated, supporting tannins, mineral and tightly meshed finish, has length and ageing potential.

Nicely balanced in a classic medium-bodied profile, elegant wild berry fruit with modest oak, grainy tannin, fine spices with nice subtlety, freshness, and a long, pure finish.

Lots of red and blue fruits, spring flowers, graphite, and leafy tobacco notes all emerge from the 2020 Château Siran, a medium-bodied, elegant, incredibly pretty and finesse-driven Margaux. It shows the fresher, elegant style of the vintage and has remarkable purity, fine tannins, and a great finish.

Deep purple with an opaque core and a delicate lilac rim. Playful bouquet of lilac and violet, followed by blackcurrant, licorice and elderberry jelly. On the multifaceted palate, creamy texture, powdery extract and muscular body. In the focused finish, black-berried contours, juniper and dark graphite, ending with austere astringency, rounded.

Tasted a few times recently, and once again this stands out as being at classified level in Margaux, in its depth, careful and confident extraction, giving plenty of dark chocolate alongside cassis, bilberry and blackberry fruit, savoury, spiced, thoroughly enjoyable. Marjolaine Defrance technical director, Hubert de Boüard consulting. 35% new oak for ageing, harvest September 11 to October 3.

We tasted the 2020, which lives up to all its promises and is set to establish itself as the best Siran we know. A very well-poised wine, taut and precise, with great length and distinguished tannins. It can be forgotten in the cellar.

Highly inviting, the bouquet of Siran 2020 shows a fruity, expressive character. The warm side of the vintage is indeed present, but it is above all the harmony, ripe fruit, and hints of licorice that define the nose. On the palate, the wine is marked by balance, by this symbiosis between silkiness and the power of the tannins. A wine that deserves a bit more development, though it must be said it is already very good now.

The nose is fruity and offers a touch of concentration, fine power, and elegance. It reveals notes of pulpy strawberry, blackberry, and, more subtly, violet, joined by a hint of pulpy cherry, a discreet touch of spices, and fine hints of hazelnut. The palate is fruity, a little tight, and offers juiciness, freshness, racy minerality, good definition, gourmandise, as well as a juicy/tangy thread, a certain elegance, and a touch of suavity. On the palate, this wine delivers notes of juicy/pulpy blackberry, fresh raspberry, and, more slightly, crushed strawberry, combined with touches of bright cherry, toasty nuances, hazelnut, chocolate, along with a discreet hint of racy minerality and vanilla.

Beautiful deep red. Intense nose with ripe fruit, spiced and slightly smoky. Palate with a supple body, rather aromatic and sappy. Medium length with no rough edges.

    Terre de Vins

The nose leads us to crushed strawberry and delicate notes of cherry in brandy. A very fine attack—rich, full, and flavorful—heralds a wine built to age. A seductive Siran, both in its structure and its aromatic palette.

94–96. Barrel Sample. All the elements are showing well in this wine from the southern end of Margaux. It's an estate that is showing great promise and the wine brings together great tannins and richly delineated black fruits. It will age well.
