Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Meursault 1er cru "Perrières" 2024 from Domaine Albert Grivault
Tasting
Colour
This white wine displays a pale yellow to light golden hue, enhanced by excellent clarity and a beautiful brilliance.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is remarkably precise. It releases scents of yellow and white fruits such as apricot, peach and apple, harmoniously blended with notes of citrus and white flowers. The whole is enriched by indulgent touches of fresh butter, brioche and hazelnut, all underpinned by a mineral backbone reminiscent of chalk and flint.
Palate
The palate offers a remarkable balance between richness and tension. The charming attack gives way to a creamy, dense mid-palate typical of its terroir. This generosity is perfectly balanced by a mineral, acidic structure that draws the wine out towards a saline finish of exceptional length.
Food and wine pairing
This great white wine pairs beautifully with noble, firm-fleshed fish such as turbot, monkfish or line-caught sea bass, as well as with refined seafood such as scallops. It also enhances white meats, particularly roast poultry, veal sweetbreads or creamy mushroom dishes.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Meursault 1er cru "Perrières" 2024, it is best served at a temperature of 11–13°C. In its youth, decanting for at least an hour is recommended to reveal its full aromatic range. Built for ageing, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2044.
The pure expression of a great Burgundy terroir
The estate
Founded in 1879, Domaine Albert Grivault is a historic benchmark in Burgundy. Located in the heart of the village, this estate of around six hectares is today owned by the Bardet and Chevignard families, descendants of the founder. It is run by Claire Bardet, supported by Henri Marc on the technical side and by Michel Bardet. The estate stands out for its uninterrupted family stewardship and its mastery of prestigious terroirs, producing white wines of great purity, built for very long ageing.
The vineyard
The vines that produce this cru are located in the south of the Meursault appellation, on well-drained slopes with south and south-east exposures at an altitude of around 250 metres. The terroir consists of very stony clay, silt and sand soils resting on a bedrock of pure limestone and Bathonian Jurassic marl. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable practices, with harvesting carried out exclusively by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the bunches.
Winemaking and ageing
The winemaking process begins with direct whole-bunch pressing to extract juice of great delicacy. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of around 20 to 25% new oak so as not to mask the identity of the terroir. The wine is aged on its lees for around 18 months, with minimal bâtonnage to preserve its tension and mineral energy.
Grape variety
Chardonnay (100%).
