    Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Les Eygats 2022 cuvée from Domaine Courbis

    Tasting

    Appearance
The wine reveals a deep garnet colour, a true testament to its great intensity and potential.

    Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense notes of perfectly ripe black fruits, reminiscent of cherry and blackcurrant, before evolving towards subtle balsamic and menthol touches.

    Palate
The tasting delivers a fresh, perfectly balanced structure. The whole is supported by generous tannins wrapped in a particularly silky texture.

    Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled red meats, such as a rib of beef, as well as with dishes in sauce and game such as jugged hare or slow-cooked lamb shank. It also matches beautifully with characterful cooked pressed cheeses, such as an aged Comté or Beaufort.

    Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this 2022 vintage, serving between 16 and 18 °C is recommended, ideally after decanting for one to two hours. Endowed with excellent ageing potential, this wine can be enjoyed until around 2032.

The elegance and precision of a Cornas wine from Domaine Courbis

    The estate
Located in Châteaubourg in the Rhône Valley, Domaine Courbis is a family-run estate whose origins date back to the 16th century. Today, brothers Laurent and Dominique Courbis manage this 33-hectare vineyard. Positioned at the southernmost tip of Saint-Joseph and at the gateway to Cornas, the estate has established itself as a benchmark name. The current owners perpetuate a historic expertise to produce wines of great precision, reflecting the full richness of their terroirs.

    The vineyard
The vines, around thirty years old, thrive on a terroir of decomposed granite, known locally as gore. This 1.2-hectare vineyard is located on the right bank of the river, on steep terraces overlooking Valence within the Cornas appellation. Planted at over 250 metres altitude and enjoying an east and south-east exposure, the plots benefit from an exceptional microclimate that promotes optimal ripening.

    Winemaking and ageing
After a rigorous plot-by-plot selection and hand harvesting, the grapes are entirely destemmed. Vinification takes place in closed, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 25 °C, accompanied by numerous pump-overs. Vatting and maceration extend over a period of three weeks to a month, a method designed to create a wine for long ageing. Finally, ageing takes place over eighteen months in oak barrels, with one third new barrels and two thirds barrels of one to two wines.
